It's a scruffy boat that is a health hazard, should be removed by CRT (why haven't they?), and this kind of slummy behaviour tars the rest of boaters as 'water gypsies' and 'blokes I met darn the pub'. It doesn't cost very much at all to carry your junk to the local dump, or even to the skips behind the shops if they're nearer.

lucky its tipped the way it is if it was the other way I reckon it would flood the engine via that exhaust elbow. It's funny that people see different things in the same picture. I see a boat with someone on it, that might need a bit of help. its a very sad society we are sleep walking into.Where every body has to conform to societies norms, or run the risk of being attacked. Yes that picture foxy posted makes me think vulnerable person with mental health problems. Rubbish on the towpath is a different story. Its often "trade waste" type rubbish. This is what bothers me and I think will alter peoples attitudes to towpath boat dwellers. As for mental health I think crt are going to have a big job on their hands soon plus ageing population "sold the house" type of people. The type of people who live on boats has changed over the last couple of decades. Labour government giving BoE a free reign, mobile phones turning up around the same time and TV programmes telling people to sell up. So you have quite a large number of people "trapped" on boats.

Boaters have always been known as "water gypsies" that's not going to change. What has changed is people think it's okay to abuse people who live differently to themselves. Oh and by the way foxy how do you know the person on the boat with the rubbish doesn't have serious health problems? I'd suggest you report it t cart if your that bothered about it.

No that's not appropriate behaviour kris. A couple of years ago a mad ranting bloke stopped opposite our mooring and poured all of the expletives out of his mouth at us. Without exaggerating I mean he really did go for it "Come out of your boats you fucking scum. Cunts. Get out here and confront me you fucking scum" etc etc. Loud. My children were a bit upset. Afterwards one of them a (5 at the time) asked me "Is he going to break the fucking boat?. We were inside the boat but it was very loud and direct. Anyway he came round to the entrance to the moorings and carried on ranting. I went to a neighbour and asked him to come with me. The bloke was heavily bollocksed. Anyway he said "stop burning illegal fuels on your fucking fires you cunts!" Neighbour explained it is smokeless fuel, got phone out to take a pic and bloke legged it. I later found out who he is. Ian is actually an OK bloke he apologised for alarming the children . Went to the pub with him had a couple of pints and a nice chat. Turns out traumatic childhood and his dad was a coal man and he has bad memories of coal and coal fires. Plus he's a head case who likes ketamine. Nice enough bloke though being fair. Repeated abuse towards a particular individual would probably be a different thing but some people are just ranty in general. That's sounds quite serious, I'm sure it wasn't pleasant for your children. It was completely unwarranted, you should be able to get on with your life without having to deal with idiots like this. I wonder what the reaction would be if I started abusing some f the residents of Bradford upon Avon? I don't think it would be long before I saw the inside of a police station. It was pretty serious at the time. the woman did contact the police but they claimed not to know him. I found him myself it turns out he lives in a derelict building near my mooring (building owner has made him very comfortable in exchange for keeping squatters out). Now that I know him I can see the bigger picture. The point is that if you are not a ranty person by nature then you probably won't verbally abuse people.

You could say the same of Prince Phillip in his new Range Rover. Help the Aged - oh no, that nasty Sun has blinded him! A lot of boaters are piss-takers, Prince Phillip is certainly a piss-taker too. Where does one draw the line?

So with ot even knowing the situation foxy is presuming that it's about rubbish.

It doesn't matter where the boat is - the question is how comes CRT come down heavy on some, but let others get away with potentially spreading typhoid or cholera and wiping out the nearest marina's occupants? If nothing else, if the owner of the boat needs help, the local CRT towpath-walker-spy-bloke can clear some of that shit off the boat. Unless they are keeping it because it's 'treasure'.

It doesn't matter where the boat is To be clear, this thread is about a situation on the canal at Bradford upon Avon. Obviously a local resident thinks it's okay to abuse boaters. By implication posting that picture makes people think it is related to the story. Where as its something completely unrelated.

Not at all unrelated. Of course people shouldn't be subject to abuse verbally/physically, but when you see debris/scrap (sorry - 'treasure!') all over the towpath isn't it understandable that people think "lazy sods - clear it up a bit!" ?
What I don't like about the K&A (if true) are the hippies who threaten to set their angry, rabid, foul-smelling-breath and rotten-toothed dogs on you, if you dare park in their "mate's place" (on the Vistors' Moorings) 'cos he's doing his Continual Cruising down to the water tap and back. Any truth in those stories?

Its not a very good example you have posted as it does not appear to show any waste material on the actual towpath. I suspect its when waste gets onto the towpath that people start becoming agitated.
