A lump of puddle clay would do it temporarily, as long as it is done sone.

A lump of puddle clay would do it temporarily, as long as it is done sone. Some temporary repairs have been done today. I was going to post the link but it is on the CRT Vounteers page so will probably not be accessible to members on here. It appears that sand bags have been put in place behind the shuttering, with bags of postcrete poured into the gap between the two

Good.
However, we were discussing that as a solution, and did think that perhaps water will merely redirect around such an obstacle (over time of course) unless properly sealed.
Does anyone know?

But thanks for letting us know. At least they have done something.

Can't copy the text from their post, but 5 men carried the materials across 3 fields. Apparently it was in an inaccessible place. Its next to the canal, have they not got a boat? Ffs. Morning Debbie, please report this back to management.

It was volunteers who were scheduled to be vegetation cutting but redirected to this repair, which took four hours.
Thank you to them.
It may have been easier when C&RT had their own equipment, and workforce, but at least something's been done.

Rog This is the new standard way of repairing things like this. The bags will have cement in them, so that they set hard when they get wet. They should also be metal pinned together to add some strength. So I imagine crt will consider this dealt with, but as you point out water will find away round, so over time no it's not done properly.
