To be honest, none of the rates quoted on the pie chart seem particularly out-of-kilter with commercial rates charged for work in the motor transport industry. I believe the grass and hedgerows are trimmed around six times a year opposite my mooring, rather than the twice you mentioned. The only mystery is why they pay £850 a day to rescue fish when there is a Thunderboat member prepared to murder them for free. I didn't mention anything about it only being done twice a year.

One figure refers to grass and hedgerow cutting on the towpath side, and the other figure refers to vegetation management on the offside, the overhanging tree branches etc. Canals have two sides. Or have I missed something?

I think they call it creative accounting ...... lump it together as towpath vegetation control and people would go "How much" split it and it doesn't look as bad ...... I wonder how much it all adds up to if you include tree surgery

At 5.6 million a year on vegetation (not including tree management), someone is seriously taking the piss, given all the complaints made about lack of both being done. Bad management will kill of the CRT, and along with it, the canals.

Well, we live in a free market economy and you are at complete and total liberty to set up a vegetation management company and tender for the work yourself.

I wonder how much it all adds up to if you include tree surgery 2 irishmen go looking for a job They see a notice in the window of an employment agency saying "tree fellers needed. £50 an hour. No experience needed" Paddy turns to Murphy and says "Oh to be sure, 'tis a shame there's only the 2 of us"
