Been a strange twenty four hours on thunderboat. I'm sat listening to the rain lash against the boat, in the cosy glow of the stove, and wondering if talk of the impending storm 'Freya' has simply unsettled some of us. Of course a couple of destabilising characters were briefly a little unsettling too. The worst of the wind isn't supposed to reach my part of Staffordshire for a few hours yet. Has anyone experienced the strongs winds where they are already ? Hoping we can get moving again tomorrow as Rodbaston lock opened earlier than the planned for Monday, and there's a promise of a bit of dry and brighter weather too Rog

We weren’t going to cruise today, but this morning the weather seemed very docile. Just a tiny bit of drizzle and no significant wind. So we’ve cruised along to Sutton Stop with just a couple of heavy showers. Raining at the moment but looks from the radar like it will stop in 30 mins or so, allowing us to go for a walk. So far, Freya seems a damp squib.

No, he was able to have the brolly up as it wasn’t windy.

Last night it got a bit windy (and wet) for a while... today has just been breezy and intermittently rainy... We're plugged into shoreline so have got the central heating on AND the fire going... even have the bread-maker silently cooking in the background making lovely smells from a focacia "mix".
The forecast (at least on my phone app) seems to be much calmer than than what the beeb seem to think is coming later - 'will report back tomorrow morning if we're spared.

I have to laugh at boaters who keep cruising the Northern Oxford and Coventry and keep mentioning Sutton Stop.... what dreary waters, and The Greyhound really isn't much to write home about either. Talk about being stuck in Purgatory.

The Greyhound is one of our favourites.
The Coventry canal is one of our favourites.
Why do you have to be so dismissive of others views?

Talk about being stuck in Purgatory. The Coventry is nice at the Fradley end and becomes gradually less nice as Sutton Stop is approached. But even then it isn’t that bad! Yes the N Oxford isn’t my favourite but with Fradley closed and Farmers Bridge closed we were limited as to where we could go for 5 days. We had dinner at the Greyhound around Christmas time and found it very good in all respects. Less good as a pub because I’ve never found the beer to be fantastic, although it is nice to sit outside in the summer and watch the boating mayhem.

Bloody satellite dish just blew off the roof into the cut. Fortunately still attached to the boat via the cable, so recovered. But decided to stream Netflix instead (no data charge on Three) and watching ancient Jonathan Creek from 1997. It’s not even in wide screen!
