We might be lucky and they get it fixed promptly. Will keep a close eye on this. I won't be doing that stretch until next weekend so will see what's happening over the week.

If it's structural damage, something tells me it could take a while. I suspect I'll be going to visit Goolies

Some vestige of progress on this, . . . I've managed to get the C&RT phone answering staff to understand that "Wykewell Lift Bridge" is not in fact a lock, and I'm waiting now for a call back from the "team" responsible for "infrastucture failure assessments" in that area.

I'd offer to go with Welly, but we're going in t'other direction!! What is the minimum air draft you can get your sailer down to ? It's not something I've ever had to consider before, but I reckon Wykewell End Lift Bridge probably has a bit more clearance under it when down than all the other opening bridges along Keadby Cut, . . all the other remaining ones being original swingbridges.

I'll check - but I suspect 4ft 6in - 5ft - have to carry the mast on top....

Present situation as at 0915 hrs today : One of the hanger bars/links from the bridge deck to the two overhead counterbalanced lifting beams is weakened to the point of imminent failure and must be replaced before the bridge can be put back into operation. An engineering/fabricating firm is due on site today to measure up and manufacture a replacement. C&RT in Leeds have said they will call me back with a time estimate to completion and reopening as soon as they have a delivery date for the new hanger bar. So, . . at least it isn't a serious structural failure in a major part of the bridge, such as the bridge deck itself or the pivots and anchors, and even allowing for the re-manufacture of a vital but uncomplicated component, is something that shouldn't really take too long. I have reminded C&RT that whilst Keadby Cut remains closed to through navigation, that they won't be doing much for the "wellbeing" of those of their "customers'' who are obliged to take unsuitable vessels into the lower Trent and Ouse and via Goole in order to avail themselves of the only other direct connecting route between the C&RT controlled Trent and their northeast waterways. I will update TB with any further news from C&RT at Leeds as soon as I have it. The hanger bars/links on the bridge can be seen in this photo : < canalplan.org.uk/cgi-bin/showstuff.cgi?mode=photo&id=9q_t50 >

If it's structural damage, something tells me it could take a while. I suspect I'll be going to visit Goolies It depends how busy the bridge is, and obviously the scale of the repair. But bridges generally they get working quite quickly.
