The mayfly is quite local to me. I'm sure I took the missus there on one of our first dates.
Nice pub and nice setting, last time I had a pint in there was when I walked the test way.

the Cutter is ok but a bit too busy for me but I've drunk there a few times. I expect Gazza will comment on that one
The Pandora at Mylor is a good bet as well although a few years now since I was last there
Stopped for a beer at the Three Horseshoes at Hemel on my way to Benfleet with Shapfell but I didn't find it particularly noteworthy.
Visited the Blue Bell Cyder House in Solihull for a CWDF banter, good spot with loads of close by moorings decent beers as well as cyders

The Cutter used to be good, it has now gone upmarket and pricey as has the Royal Standard on Fore Hill. Maltsters at Ranworth is pretty good, but the moorings get very popular during the boating season.

I suggest everyone look these pubs up on Tripadvisor, starting with the 'Terrible' comments, to get a real idea of what they are all about. I rather liked The Boat in Gnosall, owners/staff were friendly, and one can park one's boat outside:

Would you like a recommendation of a kebab shop in Cheshunt with a 5 star hygiene rating? I would if no one else!

5 years ago I would have suggested the Union Tavern in Westbourne Park. It was brilliant but after three makeovers in the space of 12 months, it turned utterly shit with barstaff that had absolutely no interest. A massive shame. Glad to see at least one Navigation Inn got listed. Based on Google's 37,100 matches for "Navigation Inn", I'd hazard a guess at there being at least 36,000 navigation inns in the UK!

Quickest route is back via Braunston locks then either the Oxford and river Thames or Grand Union. Whatever you decide to do it will be a great boat trip with a reward at the end. A decent kebab.

Well none of those pubs is on my list of good pubs. I’ve been to a few on the list and none were memorable, some were crap. Anyway, things like the Pandora Inn aren’t accessible from the system. Been there many times a a yoof though, by boat. As we used to go on annual family sailing holidays to St Mawes

I did a few holidays with the step family in St Just in Roseland when I was a young free and single tall handsome rich teenager. We regularly visited St Mawes. That would have been around 1990.
Cornwall is okay.

Pity I am leaving the Gt Ouse for the Nen mid April. Will be a bit busy prepping Vanguard for Gazza and small Lady, Mot prep work for the i10 and a few days work squeezed in. Still, that said, a train ride takes 2 1/2 hrs and costs £12.15 return with an old duffers card. Would make a good no driving drinking day out!
