Although a devout athiest I am always drawn to churches and catheadrals particularly in France because of the brilliant work undertaken to build them and the photographic opportunities they give you.
Its a shame to see one destroyed in a miniscule time frame when set against the time it took to build and how long its stood.

Whilst I do sympathise for you, and I do. Losing everything in a house fire is my worst nightmare. This is an 850 year old cathedral that is internationally recognized, the rebuild is going to be over a billion quid. The main tower has gone and the entire roof has collapsed They are insured aren't they - whats the issue.
Roughly what many 'distant' comments where made about my situation at the time.
Dont know and dont know but did you lose a priceless 850 year old cathedral? ETA not that I want to argue with you over such a serious thing. Your fire that is

You were insured werent you? -whats the issue. Perhaps if your property had been an iconic world famous building you might have been in the news.

I think I now understand why people line up to take pictures of buildings. In case they burn down.

It's not about being in the news, it's about the reaction of international heads of state. You mean you expected an international head of state to make a statement for the news when your property burnt down? Perhaps they didnt know?.......maybe?

I've been watching the coverage on BBC news. While it's clearly a popular building for tourists and holds a high cultural value in France, it's just a building. Nobody has been killed yet it seems every leader from around the world is tweeting messages that sound as if it's another twin towers. A bit over the top I think. Agree.
Where was my international sympathy when I had a house fire!
Good riddance to your house.

850 years of history, destroyed in hours. Very sad. Rog That'll teach them not to get Moroccans and Lithuanians to do the refurb because they put in a cheaper quote.

Not religious myself. I have visited the Notre Dame a couple of times and found it both beautiful and interesting. I feel a little sad seeing it burn.

Oh stop moaning. Just bulldoze the smouldering remains out of the way, and build a nice, new, shiny mosque there. It's what the EU wants.

I was shocked to the core when I saw those dreadful images last night, not because I'm in any way religious but at the loss of such a beautiful and iconic building that tòok so long to build. The men that built it were craftsmen of great skill and daring.... those flying butresses themselves are works of art, lost for words really. Phil

I have been up the River and taken the left bank route round the island and the view of the cathedral was one of the great thrills of barging through Paris. That and the view of the Eiffel Tower as you approach from the North.
