Doesn't receive the same level of world wide marketing that other patron saint's days do, but notwithstanding a happy St George's day to all. Enjoy your libation of choice ... no need to make it Guiness Rog

Remind me, in times of Brexit, why we are bothered about a turk?

I knew someone would have to bring that up ... my guess would have been foxy.
Amazingly no one ever disparages the patron saint day of other nations.

Remind me, in times of Brexit, why we are bothered about a turk? Well, firstly he was Greek, not Turkish, and secondly St. George has been the patron saint of England since 1348 so doesn't have anything to do with Brexit or the eu.

I was busy driving Himanka to Kalajoki (emergency - someone had forgotten to provide that bus and I was nearby). Can't say I have ever given St George much thought. Well, none actually!

Remind me, in times of Brexit, why we are bothered about a turk? weeeell St Andrew was born in Galilee ...... St Patrick was born in mainland Britain (possibly Wales) The only Patron saint in these islands who was born in his country was St David. Maybe you would prefer we returned to the original Patron saint of England ? (who was English) in that case we should hoist the White Dragon on his saints day of November the 20th whitedragonflag by mudlarker2, on Flickr

Rog Indeed, it seems that the patron saint of Ireland is particularly popular in England (for some strange reason) whereas if you celebrate the day of your own patron saint, you're automatically deemed to be a racist.

Ha Ha! No I'm not racist, said nothing against turks, just bemused by the fact that "true englishmen" who can't abide migrants choose a turk to represent them. Oh, the irony, especially as their great leader Nige claimed 20 million turks were about to take up their right to all come here if we let them in the eu (that may be a slight, nay, tiny exaggeration of Nige's utterings, for which I claim exemption through artistic licence).

It is odd how the establishment (and their grovelling adherents) were making the same kind of claim about the numbers of Eastern Europeans that Nigel claimed would flood into Britain. How ridiculous, they shrieked, The numbers won't be anything like that many. Only a tiny few will come. Nigel did apologise for having got the numbers wrong ....... there were actually a hell of a lot more than even he estimated !!! So you will excuse me if I am more inclined to believe in Nigel's figures .... he actually has a proven track record for calling it correctly...... whereas the others certainly don't

I understood that Brexit was seeking to break a political union.
What's that to do with race Jim ?
