First to appear 90% of the time when you moor up, too - always try to feed them something for their efforts. How DO those little legs hold them up? Lovely little things x

A scaup pair. Not often seen this far inland. Three pairs on the lake in total. Pity I didn't have me bigger lens.

Sorry to ridicule your comment, but they were in fact scaups. No tufts on there heads, and rather larger than a tufted. I should mention that I asked the warden what they were as well, as I was not sure. I trust his judgement over yours because 1, he was there, and 2, he is obviously better qualified than you on the subject 😊

Yes but you posted a picture of a pair of tufted ducks. The white part is very clear despite the poor resolution. They are categorically not scaups I would bet all the beer in my fridge on it. Sorry to labour the point but even with the poor lens the tuft on the male is visible It is the males who tend to have showy things to impress the females. I don't mind if you and the warden thought they were scaups thats not a problem but they were in fact tufted ducks. Its amazing how the males keep the white bit so white very impressive even in quite dirty waterways they are always keeping it tidy.

Cosgrove is nice. Have you had a walk through the horse tunnel under the aqueduct?

maybe you are both right ........ hybrids of scaup/tufted are quite common

Having had a tame one living on my Broads mooring for 10 years I have to say Tufted Duck and yes the tuft is clearly visible. But whatever, still nice to see, far better than a litter tray cleanser. (Go figure) Phil
