In the dry dock, Bronte boats have let me use their jet wash, it's a powerful beast. Stopped for dinner having cleaned the Hull. Fertan on this afternoon.

I did a bit of ice breaking the winter before last. So it has held up well. I'm getting a couple of bits of D bar welded on the curve below the long strake, a bit of a wear point there. I'm pleased with the keelblack.

To be honest, I've often thought that you could smear Marmite on, as long as you re-do it every two years.
We use two coats of basic stuff every two years, and ice breaking or not, the hull's always been in good nick and retaining the black.
Of course if you want to extend the period between blackings, better stuff is needed.

I like to see stuff scraped back to base layer..

I chatted to a bloke who'd gone to the expense of having his boat grit blasted, then hot zinc sprayed, then blacked.
It was supposed to be good for ten years, but after two he had to have the boat lifted out over a prop issue.
Fortunate really ... he discovered several rusty bare metal patches where the zinc hadn't taken, and had to have remedial work.
Could have proved expensive if he'd not checked it for ten years.

Rog Like you we do our boat every two years or so. Always found to be in good condition. I think even if I was told a certain coating would last for much longer, I’d still pull the boat out to check. You only need a couple of good scratches and the rusting starts.

Rog I had to take mine out after one year, the ziger blacking had gone silver! anyway Zinga paid for the docking and materials so I wasnt concerned what it did show me was a perfik finish no damage at all no rust etc etc. So I blacked it and left it another two years still the same, so now I will leave it a lot longer, which I suspect as I get older will stretch even further out

Another couple of shots at the end of the day. One of the benefits of keelblack, because its water based it can go on a damp surface. As soon as I have sponged off the Fertan I'll be able to start blacking. I am pleased I used the jet wash, last time I stripped it all back to bare metal, to check everything, but got covered in black shyte, eyes, ears, nose and hair. The guys at the marina thought the keelblack had stood up well, certainly on a par with other blacking. You can see the new bit of strake on the bow.
