"An ice age causes enormous changes to the Earth's surface. ... Scientists have recorded five significant ice agesthroughout the Earth's history: the Huronian (2.4-2.1 billion years ago), Cryogenian (850-635 million years ago), Andean-Saharan (460-430 mya), Karoo (360-260 mya) and Quaternary (2.6 mya-present)." What is it you think we should do about clever 'venture capitalists' manipulating things so they can keep raking it in, kris? I'm not sure what you are aiming at here. Are you worried about your pension disappearing? Should we round up 'venture capitalists' and put them in a gladiatoral arena and have them fight it out, letting the winner emerge - and then what? Richard Branson vs Mark Zuckerberg? But then another 'venture capitalist' will only televise these 'games' and make money by selling the programmes. How about fur coats and dropping acid in rabbits' eyes for the cosmetics industry? If I was you Foxy I would be more worried whether you will have enough water to go cruising next time!! if the predicted 3 month warm happens they will be pumping our canals dry for more important things like food production and water to drink

What I don't understand in all this is why would anyone view the extinction of humans as a negative outcome.

Nothing new under the sun. While I hate to agree with mjg the people who chose to get arrested are fools. I remember seeing a clip of one of the organisers saying "we want to get as many arrests as possible". Why do I think he did not get arrested? Surely you have to lead by example in this sort of situation. Idiots.

Surely you have to lead by example in this sort of situation. Idiots. I think most of the people who went and got arrested are doing it out of real concern and commitment, so feel they are to be commended for actually doing something to try and change the situation. Non violent direct action has a venerable and honourable history as a way of bringing about change in society. It's a pity the environmental cause has been hijacked by greedy capitalists.

Agreed but I bet the preachers never have the ibconvenience of being arrested. It just seems like double standards.
If you actively encourage people to break the law and get arrested you have to be willing to do the same otherwise you are not credible.
I bet they don't.

I think if you look into it the founder and co founder have been arrested for civil disobedience quite a few times over environmental issues.

What is it you think we should do about clever 'venture capitalists' manipulating things so they can keep raking it in, kris? By the way, was it not 'venture capitalists' who were responsible for the canals you so like cruising on, kris? They didn't have them dug so people could just enjoy boating!

As I understand it, they are protesting over the extinction of animals and plants rather than humans. Perhaps they should stop eating plants and animals and start eating humans? Here we go again:

But it's not natural to have a frozen North Pole and Antartica covered in ice sheets. what is not natural is for the ice sheets to melt so quickly, in conjunction with rising seawater temperatures, that sea levels will rapidly rise and drown perhaps 50% of the cities on the planet within a century or three. What would be natural would be a much more gradual change, giving us humans, and of course the flora and fauna, time to adapt and evolve to the changing conditions. For example, fuxxy wuxxy could evolve into a merman and live in peace and tranquillity with his mermaid bride, perched on top of the Thames Barrier when it is permanently overwhelmed by sea levels.
