Bitumen, plenty of it, cover the hole and anything else you like... who needs ventilation in a boat anyway I'm under the impression ventilation is an advisory on BSS or is my inspector a) too friendly or b) trying to kill me. As for mushroom vents I have in the past (3 times) found them in the canal when the water is clear. Last one was an aluminium one about 5 inches. Was obviously just stuck down with "sticks like shit to a blanket" type sealant or sikaflex equivalent. Boat approaching lock person grabs centre line mushroom gone. I'll have a look tomorrow see if I can locate it. If its suitable I can post it. It is aluminium not brass/bronze and I think its a fixed one. Eta is the 6 inch the size of the hole or the flange if the vent itself ?

Not really. Why would the other person have had their vent nicked?
Chicken and egg situation.

Not really. Why would the other person have had their vent nicked? Chicken and egg situation. Because the person that stole theirs had theirs nicked, obviously. Keep up.

I know that but why did it get stolen?
I'm not one to get involved in personal comments but sometimes you are a real insert word here.

For some one who frequently calls me a twat that last line is a joke surely. It got stolen because somebody needed one because theirs got stolen and so on. Are you suggesting boaters dont steal from other boaters?

At some point someone nicked a mushroom vent for scrap. It happens because because they are usually made from a copper alloy material which has a relatively high scrap value by weight.
For some reason you ruled that out and suggested it was another boater.
Yes boaters steal from other boaters.
I have never called you a twat you do not deserve that honour.

I didnt actually rule anything out, i merely suggested the more likely scenario imho. You are falling into the trap of disagreeing with me for the sake of it rather than fully reading what i posted.
