I know, what is your point? You explained how you came to understand the meaning of respite. I explained my understanding. ...but I’ve not explained my meaning of respite (although I’m happy with the dictionary). I was just trying to explain how a misspelling could easily occur (as per Kris’s post...and does it reality matter when we all knew what he meant).

Going back to the OP.
Many retailers have started to source produce from outside the E.U not that they were not doing so anyway but because there was quite a worry and the scare stories dident help that we would have empty shelves in shops.
Preparations have started and there is enough UK and non E.U produce to keep us going.
We were Britain's biggest farmer until our crisis when we sold them, John Lewis and Tesco both have large farming estates.
There is plenty to go around.

they're like a miserable pair of virtuous and chaste old women - nothing better to do than nag nag nag and then back-bite.
they both belong in a convent - preferably a silent order where the best they can do is glare at each other.

I must admit that I won't buy fruit/veg from far distant climes.I do buy citrus fruit from Spain etc as you don't tend to get British versions !

all these scare stories ...... there are more than enough disaster scenarios around for everyone to have their own one as a pet.
What very few people seem to be willing to accept is that the Homo Sapiens, as a species, has just been too damn successful.
We are genetically programmed to reproduce and increase the population. This is fine if you are an endangered species (Which according to those working in the field has happened to Hominids, possibly multiple times) But when you have increased to the level of exhausting the resources you need to survive .... Well, if we are unwilling or unable to control our own numbers it's pretty certain that a crash is coming. The question is what and when. Brexit is not going to cause global catastrophe ..... at least not directly.

I'm not entirely sure if I would want to meet Martin. I would have to mullet over. Just don’t nurse a grudge. Or grudge a nurse?

You sort of missed the point which was that we will not starve when we leave the EU because the rest of the world has plenty of food that they are happy to provide us with so quashing theories that our shelves will be bare Phil
