As I’m on my own for a few days I’ve been thinking I would update the forum on a couple of things. Firstly, I have found my new smart tv with freeview works in maybe 95 percent of areas so far. This includes from the Ashby up to the peak canal. I can only remember one mooring on the Caldon that required me to use the satellite dish. So here’s a big shout out for the omnimax aerial. Secondly, I fitted a second solar panel over winter. This took my solar from 100w to 180w. I am finding this to be a vast improvement. Thirdly, the Navigation inn in bugsworth basin is excellent. Bugsworth basin is a great place to moor. Pablo who manages here is a good chap. That’s all for now. Ian.

Having read what I posted I need to add this re the solar. What I’ve found is that whilst the original panel helped boost my batteries, adding a second panel has them bouncing on float for most of the afternoon. I reckon it saves maybe a couple of hours engine running per day.

We must try the Navigation pub again. Our one visit was marred by a group of half a dozen guys at the bar effing and blinding loudly in conversation with the bar lady. One drink and we left and visited a lovely pub in Whaley Bridge, the Goyt Inn. Rog

I just assumed it to be a northern thing...I easily blank such things out, fortunately Ali has been away for a couple of days. I have spent longer on this pub than I probably should have. I like it.

How does one define "choice language"?
Not sure but if this means expletives I don't believe there is a north of Watford gap difference.

Don't like it but its him and he's always peppered his norm speech with expletives..if he has to he misses them out but not normally I don't think its more up North since when Im in Scotland I hear less of them Its probably the places we frequent that dictates language used

"Studies have shown, however, that swearing may in fact display a more, rather than less, intelligent use of language. While swearing can become a habit, we choose to swear in different contexts and for different purposes: for linguistic effect, to convey emotion, for laughs, or perhaps even to be deliberately nasty." Swmbo is even more intelligent than me, a regular potty mouthed genius. It must be a comfort to you that your partner has a similar brain capacity to you though, never swears at all.

Just to be clear my remark about swearing being a northern thing was made in jest!

In my opinion the use of profanity in the presence of children and ladies demonstrates an inconsiderate, uncouth person, and when bar staff are present and joining in, it also shows contempt for the family customers present (it was only lunch time). I chose to leave and spend my money in a place I preferred. The Goyt Inn was excellent, family run and very friendly. But Ian and others have repeatedly said how good the Navigation is so maybe I'll give it another go. Each to their own Rog

We went in a wetherspoon a few years ago when the kids were about 3 and 5 and there were a load of rugby fans effing and blinding. One of them spotted we had sat near them and apologies profusely.
I told him not to worry about it as they hear it at home anyway. Nice of him to be considerate though.
