I can't write text or message anyone, on the other forum. It is possible my cat has hit a function key or some such, but at the moment I am immobilised. I 've switched off and re booted. Any ideas?

If you can write ok here it would suggest your equipment is ok.
Have you tried again since rebooting?

Perhaps they are simply punishing you for daring to come over here in the first place?

My daughter and her boyfriend have moved to a very posh part of Helsinki, view of the sea from their new house, and a very quiet area because, apart from the people who live there, no-one has reason to wander through - and it's at the end of a headland anyway. Beside a bay of the sea, with shore saunas and villas and floating pontoons to which a few boats are tied up. 5-10 minutes' walk away is a little harbour with jetties, and it's being done-up even more with a new floating sea wall to prevent waves from passing boats and tourist ferries from making the boats in the harbour juggle about. I suggested they get a boat, as the kids would enjoy going out to sea and exploring the hundreds of islands, most of which you can camp on, and light fires for grilling. They could also pop into Helsinki with their boat to do shopping or go to the cinema or whatever. I had a quick look at www.nettivene.fi and found a couple the same model boat as I had - look good, and not far away, in Sipoo, an hours' drive (by boat): www.nettivene.com/moottorivene/galax/729379 www.nettivene.com/moottorivene/galax/760017 But then in the afternoon by their nearest bus stop just 5 mins walk away I espied a boat in the bushes, the outer side of a garden, sitting on a trailer. It looked like it hadn't been used for a while. Under a tarpaulin. When I came back from the city centre, after meeting Julie (from Ambleside/Elland) I saw the house owners were in their garden so cheekily went to ask them if it was for sale and they said actually only today they had been talking about what to do with it. They hadn't driven it for a couple of years, and would 1000 Euros be OK? Blimey! That's cheap! My daughter and her boyfriend came out later to have a look at it from the outside. They don't have a car yet (thinking of getting one later this year), but the boat could be put in the water very close to their house. The owner said the engine might need looking at as it hasn't run for a couple of years, carburettor cleaned perhaps. I think it would be worth taking the risk, but I have left my daughter and bf to think about it - a boat needs a place to be stored during winter when the sea is frozen (yes - solid frozen). Boat is a Carita, made by Turku Boatyard, quite old - 1980s I think, and engine 35 years old - Johnson 70hp (far too big for a 5m-long glass-fibre boat, but there you are). Something like this it is: Genuine sale, obviously (not even being advertised yet), and I would even buy it for them - but it's their decision. Would be a shame to waste the opportunity of getting to know the southern coast of Finland. But then these engines burn a lot of petrol!

Yam 2 stroke will be quite thirsty it looks like a 30 or something.
I wonder if it is a bit bigger and will plane the boat. I suppose it might be quite good to have a planing boat in that area.
For a messing around boat at slow speeds you could be looking at another grand for a second hand four stroke outboard.
Ask the owners how fast it is?
Eta just realised you said "something like this" so maybe the picture is not the boat you are referring to.

Here's Julie - flew from Manchester via Stockholm yesterday afternoon. I looked after her (very heavy!) touring bike whilst she went to the food shop before catching the 1829 train to Imatra (standing beside that train) from where she'll be cycling North - no destination in mind, but perhaps Kirkenes. She stayed with us a night last year whilst cycling from Kirkenes to Stockholm/southern Sweden.
