What is a 'referral order'? Why not just cut their knackers off with rusty garden shears? What happened to the "red hot mooring pins"? One got bent and the top fell off another. On my repair list, fear not!

"The parents of three teenagers who deliberately trashed a model railway exhibition worth £30,000 have been ordered to pay compensation." "Three of them were handed 12-month referral orders and their parents were also ordered to pay £500 in compensation." What is a 'referral order'? Why not just cut their knackers off with rusty garden shears? Why are their parents not ordered to pay £30,000 + compensation for the trouble? Talk about getting off lightly. Or was it too harsh? Luckily £110,000 was donated by some good folk. So they already have enough to repair it all But yes it seemed soft.

"Peter Davies, chairman of the Market Deeping Model Railway club, said he was glad due process had been followed but it was "right they [the teenagers] make the best use of their future".
"We have to allow them to make a second start, although I don't condone the damage, it was horrific," he said".
To a considerable degree I agree with this, and applaud Mr Davies' charitability and clarity of thought. The teenagers involved did a horrible thing, but no good is likely to come from excessively punishing the immaturity of their actions.

Its good to see such a response from strangers in these situations. But when a cab driver from Birmingham was killed by a drug-dealing scum in a horrific car crash - the scum had only been out of prison for less than 48 hrs for other driving offences - leaving a wife and three small children with no father and no viable means of support, the crowdfunding appeal reached less than £5000. Its a funny old world.

I think you are right at that too. But now it seems even more fucked up than before.

Not sure ....unless it's happened to you, having a close family member murdered is so extreme it is hard to empathise with..... whereas we can probably all imagine the pain of having something you have cherished and worked at long and hard being casually destroyed

Its a funny old world. Down to media coverage would be my guess. The crowd funding campaign for PC Andrew Harper currently stands at just short of a quarter of a million. www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/pc-andrew-harperRightly so in my opinion that such an ammount should be donated, but his death has been all over national and international media hence its attracted more attention.

Again, I think thats true. A policeman killed in the line of duty is always going to make the headlines and rightly so. But the cab-driver story was on the national news too. Still, he was just some immigrant, its not nearly as newsworthy as a bunch of toy trains.
