Canal and river trust struggle to find money for repairs, so they tell us. Anyway, here is the latest brainwave that will hopefully waste a bit more, and give boat owners a little more grief to contend with.

Plenty of money for the new logo! "Makes me feel sick just looking at it. I suggest it is CRT’s sick joke to deflect all the criticism that they are incapable of maintaining a cruising network for boaters with all the long term stoppages so far this year." "It would be good to provide some balance to these negative comments. However, it is difficult to find any posts that are positive. After much searching, one has been identified. John Evans posted ‘Great logo’ on Canal & River Trust Volunteers facebook page. Unfortunately, as with Mike Downs post, above, C&RT silently deleted it! They may have thought it was facetious being surrounded, as it was, by negative comments." www.thefloater.org/the-floater-april-2018/boaters-unimpressed-by-new-crt-logo-while-trust-tries-to-pretend-it-isnt-prematurely-public

The notion that cart have no money, is complete bollocks spread by the fund raising dept. Any organisation that has a spend of £180 odd million a year isn't poor, they have devised numerous ingenious ways of wasting the money that they do have. This seems to be one of these schemes.

So are these reed beds designed to collect the green gunk that floats on the surface of the canals?

So are these reed beds designed to collect the green gunk that floats on the surface of the canals? Now don’t go suggesting that CRT are actually doing something useful. You know we have to complain about anything they do.

So are these reed beds designed to collect the green gunk that floats on the surface of the canals? No, they suggested that a couple of years ago, then discovered it was not effective. The reeds end up breaking, detaching from the bed and sinking. Adding yet more crap to the bottom. This particular idea was dreamed up by a resident group who are under the impression they can use them to deter boats from mooring in certain areas.

Perhaps Andrzei could pitch a tent up on one?

Right...thanks that'll be an interesting experiment... I'll look out for them

I get it. But maybe if we get people to stop dropping it too, we'd be more successful Rog

It would help enormously if CRT took the initiative to make the effort and commitment of supporting the public by installing bins, and emptying them. It's all very well asking people to pick it up, but if there is nowhere nearby to dispose of it, the odds are it won't get picked up. People are hardly going to bother with taking it home when their own councils have implemented limited domestic rubbish collections. All these blue sky thinking muppets come up with trendy ideas, but fail to look in depth at the problem and issues. All talk and attention seeking for themselves, keep the money flowing in for our wages and perks.

On the North Oxford, two sets of bins have recently been removed.

Problem is overfilled bins lead to seagulls, squirrels, foxes and rats foraging and they spread rubbish. You see it all round here that rubbish put in the bin late evenings is then hauled out by wildlife seeking alternative diet.
