The ideal thing for someone looking to do positive publicity about clearing rubbish is for there to be as much rubbish as possible in the waterway.
With no rubbish you could never get positive publicity from clearing it.
It would probably be worth paying people to throw it in but removing bins is a good start.

Problem is overfilled bins lead to foxes foraging and they spread rubbish. It's not true!!

I don't suppose having a logo resembling a half sunk tyre does them any favours....

What about all the lying that went ahead of that logo? Saying it wasn't true... when everybody knew it was already being wheeled out?

Problem is overfilled bins lead to seagulls, squirrels, foxes and rats foraging and they spread rubbish. You see it all round here that rubbish put in the bin late evenings is then hauled out by wildlife seeking alternative diet. I have it on good authority that feral boaters also root through waterside skips and bins. It's terrible. Something should be done.

Its amazing what people throw out when "refurbishing" boats. I sometimes wonder if the boats have been "furbished" in the first place.

C&RT is supposed to be a navigation authority, . . providing domestic refuse disposal facilities for pleasure craft should not be within their remit.
Packaging from previous shopping trips that can't be burned should be disposed of into public waste-bins on the next shopping expedition, or if you happen to be passing a C&RT office on your travels, . . . through their letterbox !

The best way to deal with excess packaging is to leave it in the trolley before taking your shopping to the boat.
This works best with canal side supermarkets of which there are fortunately quite a lot.
I do this then I lock the trolley up and throw the pound coin in the canal out of devilment.

I'd say it's a responsible thing to do. Keep the place tidy. As for burning packaging, that fills the air with toxic shite. Not a responsible thing to do.

I wouldn't criticise people rootling through skips etc to get stuff they can use..think its good. We chuck far to much away... Its all ok as long as they don't chuck what they don't need around the environment. What I think is awful when u see perfectly good stuff being ditched at the tip cos it don't fit with decor or people upgrade when summit still has plenty of wear. My middle sons partner will not buy new..she reuses what she can.

Our local tip used to put serviceable items to one side but they've been told to stop.

Someone will be converting them to folding beer tokens somewhere along the line. I hate buying new stuff. Clothes, boats, cars, equipment etc all second hand. A few things like stainless bolts and small parts are bought new as and when. And underwear. Nothing else.
