I know how to do a small one, use a plate or similar with a blade and masking tape. Any tips on how to paint a longer curved line? It's around 2 foot 6 long.

I repainted my coachlines last year and I used a home-made maulstick (well, ok, a few bits of wood banged together with a couple of nails) and that seemed to work ok.

2 foot 6 from beginning to end. It's a coach line at the front of the boat, the curve to match the curved steel of the hull.

Cheers Not sure what they are called but there are flexible drawing aids which bend into curves for this purpose. I think I used them years ago for drawing mean/average curves on graph paper. |

French curves I think they are called, I'd be tempted to make a template out of thin card, then you've got a good chance of getting it the same both sides. |

That's quite a good idea as you can also keep the template in case you need to redo it in the future. |

Use the curve of the hull as the basis for scribing the curve with chalk or pen, using a suitably sized block of wood as the 'spacer'.

Back on this now. I'm fortunate in that I already have the curved stripe (badly done) but want to go over it in my new colour, and tidy it up. I tried messing around with pvc tape, managed to follow the curve quite easily. The thing is, is the new paint likely to bleed under pvc tape?
