Are you looking towards the USSR for your true socialist state with a buoyant economy, Cuba, Venezuela or North Korea? None of those were true socialist. Jezzer will show you. He want to tax people with bigger gardens more!! how stupid can you get? He is an imbecile of the first order and the quicker he goes the better

None of those were true socialist. Jezzer will show you. He want to tax people with bigger gardens more!! how stupid can you get? He is an imbecile of the first order and the quicker he goes the better You really should just use the tory rags as an arsewipe. Here is the unbiased version... Bring it on... Council tax is broken – with pensioners forced to pay when they can't, rich areas charging people less than poor ones, councils having to hammer residents for any funding shortfall from central government and the threat of prison for people who don't pay. In response to this Labour's manifesto suggests a different way – moving to a “land value tax” instead. “We will initiate a review into reforming council tax and business rates and consider new options such as a land value tax, to ensure local government has sustainable funding for the long term,” the manifesto reads. That's it. That's all the manifesto promises – a review. But it's enough to have made a lot of people angry – and the Conservatives to weaponise to use against them. Conservative politicians and commentators claim 10million homes would be hit by a “garden tax”, with those affected seeing their bill more than three times higher than council tax currently is. The problem is that they're basing their warnings on assumptions. Firstly, people already have the value of their gardens included in council tax. That's because council tax is based on the value of your property – and gardens are worth a lot. A recent study put the value of owning a garden at £35,000 – with Londoners prepared to pay £82,700 on top of a property value to get one, research commissioned by Coulourfence shows. Secondly, gardens aren't being targetted. “ We won’t be taxing people’s gardens. The Tories are throwing around false claims to try and distract from their own policies,” the Labour party has said in response to controversy around the proposed review. “It’s not going to happen.” The statement goes on to make things clearer still. “Our plan is to see what needs to be done to ensure that working people don’t pay more. We'll look at how we can make council tax fairer but we’ll not be introducing a separate Land Value Tax on residential property.”

Every thing labour does is to disadvantage people that have done good, thank god they will never get into power again! Corbyn and Brexit has finished them as they are making such a mess of things

I wonder if it's not Labour's policies that people have a problem with, it's the fucknuts that would be entrusted with implementing it.

can't agree with all that Peter.
I never have been a fan of inherited wealth and that includes large properties. If a person inherits a large expensive property that they cannot afford to keep because of rates or any other cost of upkeep then they should sell. Just because they have inherited it doesn't make it sacrosanct.
Land value tax also has plenty of flaws but the main problem with introducing a different system will be exactly the same as the Thatcher government ran into with the "poll tax" That was also a potentially much fairer system of local taxation than the rates.
(an example would be myself and a neighbour living in very similar three bedroom Victorian properties, We paid the same rates but there were two of us in our house using facilities with one wage earner. Their house had 6 people living in their house (5 of them in full time employment) using far more of the council supplied facilities)
The problem with the introduction of the poll tax ? (and quite likely the "garden tax") is that to be effective it would have to be introduced fairly swiftly and if that happens people who are having to pay more will see their costs rising quicker than others which equals disaster
I do not know what the best way is to deal with local sevices and their costs but whatever method is used it will have to be seen to be fair .... and that will never happen when party politics are involved.

One thing's for sure, if Labour were to get in lots of people will have to pay more, whether it be for their gardens or with other taxes, to pay for their profligate spending.
I don't think, if it came to the crunch, a far left Labour government could ever get in in Britain. Consider the following question:
Would you prefer:
a/ to keep more of the money your earn, to spend as you choose?
b/ entrust more of the money you earn to the government, with the knowledge that they will spend it wisely.
a/ will always triumph over b/ in Britain, in a free vote. I suspect it would all around the world which is why such regimes, when they have existed, have always gained power through force.

To reach the age of 65 and still believe anything that any politician says, is quite astounding. If any of the parties were going to make a difference ... what are they waiting for ? Certainly Labour and Tories have enjoyed endless oportunities since 1945 ... yet here we are. Ah I see ... it's all about tomorrow Rog

I'm afraid that in this day and age, the likes of Jim and his lefty friends tend to define themselves as to who they can hate, choosing to elevate grievances over solutions.

How it read it wasnt large properties it could have been a two up and down with a big garden, you know like in the old days when houses came with a garden, so you wouldnt be inheriting a lot however if you rented that property you would have to pay that higher rate, basically its just a tax for the sake of it or having the nerve to want to live in a home you have bought!!

Can you imagine how much your council tax be might be under Labour, once they've reversed all the 'Tory austerity', set up loads of new quangos etc? Double might not be far off the mark.

Oh dear, here we go; (Newly elected Labour MP, Lisa Forbes, might well be suspended before she even starts the job. New revelations about her vile antisemitic past break Labour's "zero tolerance" rules. Many Labour MPs condemn her and calls to kick her out are growing).
