Made myself a mushroom vent guard, the centre rope traps under if the vent is open. Next job a lick of paint then fasten to roof with 5mm stainless Allen head screws.

Looks great, quality engineering that but, and please forgive me I appear thick, what are you guarding the mushroom vent from?

"the centre rope traps under it", it is just on the route from centre eye to the rear deck, so if you don't notice and heave on the rope it will bend / break the threaded rod under the mushroom. Currently I have to remember to wind the vent shut before travelling, which isn't ideal if someone does a pongypoo or the cassette is getting full. I've seen similar on Shire Cruisers Hire boats.

That's actually a really good idea. I'll have 3 please, colour matched to my roof.

I've had 3 mushroom vents out of the cut around locks over the years. All had been stuck on with some sort of adhesive rather than screwed or bolted down.
Two bronze ones and an aluminium one. I spotted them when water was clear and hooked them out with the keb.
I'm sure it was centre line issues in all cases. I prefer to have two centre lines one each side anyway but not always easy depending on handrail design.

My vents are fastened down with 5mm brass countersunk head screws, drilled and tapped into the roof.

That's the correct way to do it. or stainless (ideally A4 not A2). I feel brass is better. Eta you meant M5 brass countersunk MACHINE screws I believe

Maybe you need to go back to the start and think about an alternative way of making them. If they are fixed a la BS scheme you could have drilled and tapped and screwed on some lengths of brass bar which reach down to cabin top level with little glue lined heat shrink feet on then so when bolted down to the mushroom vent top they sit tight on the cabin top and deflect ropes over. That would only work on non closeable vents.

Exactly but if you tell someone you used 5mm brass csk screws and they order those they will get wood screws. you either have to add M5 or Machine to clarify.

Not possible, the powers that be won't be allowed to leave before a deal is agreed that allows tariff free trade. That's why it will take 9 years. In any case, I didn't realise that Lancashire and Yorkshire were different states, but I can understand why you think that.
