I made my original front bulkhead and doors out of oak tabletops. Looked swish but the ply started to delaminate. I've got some 2mm brushed ali, cut more or less to size. Started the job today, got one panel covered.

That looks good Jim.
Are you doing anything with the ply to prevent further degradation? (I presume you are just skinning over)
I was just thinking that the last thing you want would be for it to continue as hidden rot

(I presume you are just skinning over) I was just thinking that the last thing you want would be for it to continue as hidden rot The ply hasn't rotted, the damp softened the glue. The oak faced ply of the tabletops was probably made with pva wood glue. I've sealed the edges and screw holes with a compound sealant. The edges that will still be exposed, door frame etc, are solid oak,so the ply is sealed in behind the Ali.

I would sympathise a little with John's concern that you may be trapping moisture and thus building-in a longer term problem.
Be that as it may...in the old days the only thing to prime aluminium with was zinc chromate primer. Its very hard to get hold of now because it is extremley toxic. So if you don't have a contact in the aviation industry, the next best thing is U-Pol Acid-Etch primer, and you can get it at an average price from Halfords. Did I ever tell you how much I hate Halfords? Nearly as much as I hate B&Q...

I'm going to leave it for now, all shiny, see how it goes. Any moisture will dry out from the inside, it's dry at the moment.

I'd just leave it uncoated. Its aluminium. The whole point of aluminium is that it is aluminium!

I think it goes well with the aluminium. Polish it up to discourage other boaters from using overly bright tunnel lights. This has given me an idea. I hate bright lights in tunnels or in the dark. Mirror !

And polished aluminium looks fine, but you have to keep on polishing it. Weathered aluminium doesn't rust but it looks shit. Still, beauty, beholder, etc.

A... Leave bare? B... Paint / lacquer?
After a while or if you don't get the result you want, you could then organise another vote because 'everyone' will supposedly of changed their minds ! π

That's OK, I know my own mind, I'm usually right. It's widely reported that staunch remainers are more intelligent.

Rog And I, along with many staunch remainers, did say so at the time. Quitlings simplistically thought Brexit meant Brexit. Bless.
