I'll have a word with the misses Steve. I'm after a half decent camera to get into photography.

The very best thing about Nikon is their non-obsolescence policy. You never have to worry about lenses being unusable even if you upgrade the body. The single exception I know of is their old fish-eye, which needs a body that can fold up the mirror.
Even the latest model with the first new lens mount in their history (the Z mount), can accommodate old lenses with an adapter.

Haven't things changed since then?

I am talking about their SLRs for the last century, since 1917. Old cameras obviously cannot enjoy, e.g. autofocus features of a.modern lens, but they can use the lens, and modern cameras will not convert an old lens into, e.g. autofocussing, but the lens can be used.
I have a digital Nikon Df, but can use every lens I have from my 35mm FA. The only lens I cannot use on anything other than the professional Nikon F is the 8mm fisheye.
Only the new z mount lenses will be incompatible with f mount cameras, unless an adapter is brought out, but that would be a little pointless.

I was thinking more of the computer programmes and electronic gubbins that belong to the life and soul of digital cameras. Something 9 years old... the lenses may fit, but the programmes are surely designed for less pixels and different wiring configurations?
I gave up my old Olympus OM-1 for my little Olympus digital because the world has changed with the Internet. Digital cameras, surely, have to be made bearing in mind the latest computer programmes - for table tops/iPads/smart phones - so that they are compatible?

Why did you 'upgrade' to a newer camera?
