We have just paid £20 to pitch our tent at a camp/caravan site. There is no 'Land of the Free'. Still, it's nice and quiet, just the sound of sheeps bleating and owls hooty-hooting.

If you had asked I could have recommended a free wild camping spot near enough to the Inn at Ribblehead for 'facilities'.

Holly Johnson disagrees with you Thats a fiver dearer than your recent short term mooring offer, makes the marina look a bargain.

Cropredy Marina may have regarded me as an itinerant vagabond, but we do tenting in style - a South African Chenin Blanc - Chardonnay mix whilst we watched the lunar eclipse. We waved our arms and could see our shadows waving back.

"shouty woman's club" Yeah... you'd think they're all having babies there all at the same time, with all that grunting!

Camp site owner courteous - quite a different attitude to that received at Cropredy Marina. 3. Campsite promised lunar eclipse included in the price. Cropredy Marina did not.

So it was that. Not the beer then. There was this awful stink of Jet A1 below Sunbury lock. I was told today that it is the location of the pipeline supplying Gatwick and Heathrow. I reckon there was some sort of leak as it was really stinking .

Funnily enough we are taking our 2 Camping Gaz lanterns to a charity shop, as we have never used them with the boat... but, having one on beside the tent last night got me thinking we should keep them and try using them. Raining hard now. Typical Scotland. Dour weather. Dull houses (why are houses so boring-looking all over Scotland?)(Wales too, for that matter). Time for an afternoon nap. Let's hope the weather has improved when I wake up. Creeping around Criffell, 569 metres).

Twenty quid to hide from the rain in a tent !
You can surely get a room in a pub for £40 to £60.
Seems a lot of money for very little ... but each to their own.

Camping's not cheap in the school holidays, but £15 for a small tent and no hot showers is taking the Mick. That's what I pay for my camper on a plush site with superb free facilities and electrical hook-up, but then I don't go in the school holidays - I don't like too many small children running amok while their gobby pissed parents ignore them and their unleashed untrained dogs piss up your awning pole. On that subject...
