I would have thought that a proper temperature cut out would be more likely to be buried in the windings than in the switch. That is the correct way for motor control, a thermistor buried in the windings.

That sniper dinghy is a bit of a classic. Not sure they do the! any more. Like a mini Dory. I remember its big brother the Colt. They really flew with a 9.9 on the back

I don't think MK have overheat cutouts.
Next time you strip the motor have a good look at the brush plate in particular the blade terminals.
And have a look for the little card cylinder for holding the brushes in place it makes getting the thing back together easier.
