And what does it claim the money is for? It doesn't! Just says overdue invoice.
I'm not too worried but Mum is.
Just hoping CRT haven't introduced an Idiot/Donkey tax !

I was talking to a boater who pays her license in monthly installments. They have been helping themselves to 15-17 payments a year for three years, are hassling her for more and now refuse to discuss it. While they did, they came up with one reason after another, all at odds with the letters they sent. Her bank is now looking into possible fraud. Just saying. I pay yearly and have had the opposite experience, when I bought my current boat, between the seller and myself we actually got a free month. When I sold my previous boat they refunded 4 months fee twice and never noticed. All a bit random, they obviously have issues.

Definitely. My mooring was 22m long when I originally bid for it and now waterside moorings (The Trust) are claiming it is and always has been exactly the same length as my boat. 17.4m. Like the mooring was built specially for my boat 10 years before I was anywhere near it. No it wasn't, CRT auctioned 3 x 22m moorings. I know this.
This is nonsense but tricky for me to prove it as they strategically avoid putting mooring size in the contract and I do not have access to the original auction listing.
CBA with legal representation as I dislike lawyers.
I have put in a FOIA request to ask for data about mooring sizes when auctioned. I wonder if that will produce any results.
Next step is formal complaint.

My betting is on the fact that they haven't cancelled the previous moorer's contract properly on my new long term mooring and are now trying to bill me twice - will have to wait until Monday to see how easy it is to sort out.

I too am on the retainer level, in case I can't fix it myself.

Just had a look at RCR website, discovered I get one free e-canal map, downloaded it, looks ok but a live trial is needed. I don't know if it's any better than the free google maps overlay produced by the boater around Hebden.

RCR is expensive? I realise it's a smaller market so perhaps an unfair comparison but for £135 I just insured my "notorious for breaking down/bursting into flames/spitting out engine parts/being stolen" VW 70's camper for £139 fully comp. It includes roadside assistance and recovery to anywhere I choose in the UK up to 6 times per year. Cheaper than petrol on your homeward journey. Not that I ever use them, I prefer maintenance. So... If you don't feel you can competently DIY/assess your mechanicals, wouldn't it be better to pay for a thorough engine/box/prop inspection and service every year? At least you get something for your money. Another thing I try and remember is that when things go a bit wrong, as often as not good memories are made and a bit of adventure beckons.

Thanks, that is what I intend to do. Sorted! Thanks again all.

RCR gives the jobs to local mechanics. Sometimes they are top blokes, sometimes they are clueless berks - as I witnessed last August in Penkridge, when eventually the two clueless berks got sent packing because they couldn't work out what to do, and a proper mechanic from the local boatyard was summoned. Why are mechanics always men? Come on, wimminz, claim your rights to 'Equality' and get your hands dirty! I have a copy of a letter from CRT demanding I pay an overdue invoice for £2415.60 within 7 days - no reason for why I owe them the money or prior notification, all my contact details customer number etc are ok. My view of CRT might change come Monday... Thankfully easily sorted, CRT mistake and email received to confirm so.

So you'll be seeking compo from them for the unecessary worry and stress they caused you? Letters like this have driven many to suicide. A "sorry" would be a year's CRT Standard licence free of charge.

"Reminds of a incident in my neck of the woods where some immigrant successfully sued the council because he sat on a park bench despite a sign saying “Wet Paint”
He sued because – according to his lawyer – he couldn’t speak or read English, and therefore the park management should have made concessions to include most other languages on that sign given that the park was in the public realm.
He won something like £550 in damages!"
"That’s ridiculous! By the same logic an illiterate person could sue for not being able to read the sign. Clown world Britain. Immigrants first, Brits second."

They have given a free Licence for life plus 10 years free mooring - I think that is fair.
