It looks a bit like the cable has kinked when the leg was lifted. I'd definitely like to check this carefully and carry a spare morse cable plus work out a way to manually engage drive in case of another failure. Could be imagining it due to low resolution image but it looks dodgy.

I suppose it depends if you can reach the clips on the leg itself. If you do need to fit a new cable it seems like it should have a loop inside the boat so that when the leg is lifted the cable can slide in and out rather than being bent. So maybe a longer cable would make sense. Or perhaps this cable is being prevented from sliding freely or the hole is too high up.

So the cable is definitely meant to slide in and out of that hole when leg is raised. Check why it isn't doing so.
I wonder if you can straighten that maybe its possible as it is the flexible part not the rigid end bit.
Still better to put a new one on though I think.
Seems likely it would be a 33c cable yes.

Yes i reckon tbe cable should slide in there aswell. When i fit a new one ill make it bigger as its looks small to me. Check behind the transom and all should be good.
Ill go for a 22 foot 33c. Should be enough. Or 24 foot even.

I will look into that a bit as i cant see from visualising it that the cable can jam when steering as its not going to bend/twist much if anything when being steered.
And when lifting the leg it has to go somewhere so not to kink as mine has done. The hole does look high though for it not to. Trail and ahead lol.
Aslong as its working this weekend it be reat. And have the new one just incase to hand.
Forgot to ask.
Will the leg UJ`s not get damaged if i run it with the leg lifted a little if i need to get less draught ?

As I mentioned before, I don't have a boat for living on anymore. I day-dream though, and I'm always looking at boat ads. What I can't get over though are the astronomical prices people ask for their old narrowboats. Also, the piffle some people write in the blurb is comical. So many builders are now 'renowned' and I saw an ad for a nasty 70s Springer in which the product of the legendary company was described as 'sought-after'...pass the bucket...
Similarly, a high-end finished boat can carry a price-tag which has six (six!) figures. Cor blimey guvnor. And there are clearly those who will pay it too. There's one company out there making replica Joshers, fake rivets and all, but it did look fine, very straight steel.
Faffer, had I not seen your previous effort, I would have thought you are barking mad - this boat is (and apologies to those who frown upon the profanities but sometimes it is warranted, I feel) a titty-fucking mess. I am sure the 'after' photos will be something to behold.
But have you ever considered a new shell with some big bucks for your efforts on completion? I think you should. I really do.

I really do.I guess you mean a NB or WB. I have years ago and had a NB shell. I would only get one to live on and that would need to be a WB. Steel boats are all good but NB and WB are not for me for leisure use. To featureless if you know what i mean. I have considered Fisher boats etc etc in kit form and do one from scratch but as with any new shell i am out oriced, cant afford £15k plus for a shell. But then with all that if i had the £15k plus money i would get Grand Banks style boat in either GRP or steel. Not long ago found a 43 GRP GB style for £12k , just no money.

Fishers are lovely boats. I seem to recall you located rather an interesting fairly big one possibly a 34 for sensible money but dodgy decks or something .
I agree with @nemesis.

Yes the Fisher 37, but he is asking stupid money as it was at the end of the day a hull and engine, he was wanting close, i mean close to £5k. You agree wit Nemesis on i am Barking mad or should look into a NB/WB. Nah

Doing what makes you happy is probably the most important thing in life (strike that, I meant what keeps her happy...) but the notion was to approach the issue from a business perspective with a view to selling as soon as the paint is dry! You get to indulge your obvious passion for design as well as turning a coin. Not everyone can do what you're doing.
