Just seen on the news that the Toddbrook dam spillway is about to be broached, CRT res that feeds the Peak Forest canal, Whaley Bridge beng evacuated EA issued a severe flood warning (immediate danger to life).
Looks like CRT approach to maintenance about to come under scrutiny,no doubt they will try to put some “spin” on it, everyone who uses their canals knows just how poor their record is on infrastructure maintenance

True, but meanhile Whaley Bridge is being evacuated so if any one knows anyone who might be on a boat near that area, it looks pretty serious on the news site photos, so a warning might be appropriate. Don't know the geography of the area, but there's a lot of water moving.

I wonder what the residents of Whaley Bridge think of Parry and co.'s ''Life is better by water" campaign now ?

A simple row of sandbags across the top of that part would at least protect and slow down or even stop the erosion? No doubt Health and safety think it's too dangerous and better to let it collapse catastrophically. Doh!

Surely they could pump water out and flood some fields or something. It might not solve the problem but will certainly reduce the impact a flood may cause.

CRT aware last night evidently, but didn't respond at first. They couldn't do anything immediately because they had run out of red and white tape, . . having used up the last of their entire stock of it decorating broken paddles over the last few weeks. I feel an FoI request about reservoir inspection records coming on !

Water has stopped going over the top as they have lowered the water level.
The canal feeder is still flowing hard and fast.
