there are wasps about.
I don't really mind them as such but its a nuisance.
Two techniques I found useful recently. Empty cider cans as traps and if a wasp comes into the cabin I have been experimenting with some expressions such as "WASP [WORD REMOVED] OFF!" In an elevated tone with vocal force. This seems quite effecfive as they do actually go away.
Anyone have any other non electrocution type solutions ?
Burning coffee is quite effective but as I never drink coffee this is not an option.

Two beers poured into separate glasses. Wasp will choose one, put beer mat over it, wasp will die, meanwhile you can drink from the other glass.
If another wasp selects your wasp free glass put beer mat over it, flick wasp out from the other glass and drink from that. The cycle goes round and round but you still get a wasp free drink (most of the time!).

Insects are very smart considering their small brains. Maybe itβs billions of years of practice?
Horse flies are particularly devious and I think more advanced than wasps. Bastards!!!! Grrrr....

Wasps don't bother me, they only sting if you're unlucky, sit on one or something. Horseflies are a different proposition, they hunt you, follow you, will rarely go away without either biting you or you swatting it. While their bite isn't that painful it's painful enough to avoid if possible. This year I've been bitten on average once a day, 4 times on one occasion. There seem to be more of them around, year on year.

We had horseflies on the estate when I was little. Nasty buggers you could dive into the pool and have a swim they would still be there when you got out. For some reason I never had a horsefly bite but my sisters did. Horseflies are quite slow and large so easy to kill which helps.

A quick blast of Raid provides enormous amusement as they go all spazzy by the window, kicking their legs up and down and making ultra-buzzy noises. Just be aware that wasps do recognise cans of Raid so you need to keep it hidden behind your back until they approach close enough to be given a face full of the stuff.
Also be aware that when you die and go to Hell, every wasp you have ever killed is there waiting to sting you.

I along with many others suffered from Horsefly bites but was offered this solution. When bitten/stung at the earliest opportunity take a teaspoon and heat with boiling water them press it onto the sting and hold it there as long as you can stand the heat. Sounds crazy but it works. Phil

I was told to bite the affected area as if it was a piece of steak and suck the poison out. Without drawing blood. Or was that for snake bites. Maybe that was a snake bite thing.
