The mouse did go back into the cereal box and I managed to get it out the door before it jumped out so its no longer in the vessel which is good news WHAT !!!! you do realise that small rodents are at great risk in the open and especially near water. It watched you for a while and decided that you were a kindly soul, and came to you for sanctuary. Quite reasonably it expected you to ensure that no cats, magpies, carnivorous geese and high-jumping pike could get anywhere near it. So just after you gave it reason to bond with you, you caught it and sent it back to mouse-hell. callous is not a strong enough word. No it jumped back on the river bank and went in its hole.
At the end of the day it could smell the open box of cereal which was close to the side door and it tried its luck. Its true that it did come and see me where I was sitting and worked out I am not a threat to it but as I will be moving the boat I thought it best to close the side door otherwise it might get separated from the others.
I think it realised it was a bit risky but the cereal was too tempting.

Now that we have access to 240 volts, the spiders on our boat are coming face-to-face with the inside of a Miele vacuum cleaner dust bag. Whats wrong with good old english vacuum cleaners. Supporting the 3rd reich!

............. just noticed that said mouse is described as a 'very small mouse'. is that relevant? perhaps a very small mouse does not represent a risk, except to very small spidoes.
.................. has anyone seen any very large mouses recently? or even one very large mice?

why are narrowboats not equipped with those conical devices that are used to stop rats using mooring lines to get aboard ships?

why are narrowboats not equipped with those conical devices that are used to stop rats using mooring lines to get aboard ships? squeak squeak sqeeeeeeak squeak sqqueak google translation from mouse
because those nice kind narrowboaters have nice low decks and like to moor up ever so tight to the bank so even with our little legs we can just hop across

You need a gun, preferably a Mauser.

I had a pet mouse when I was younger but unfortunately I went abroad for a short time and left it with my sister who failed to provide water for it. So it died.
This mouse I saw yesterday was considerably smaller than the pet one I had which dried up.
Mice are usually quite small. Its possible it may have been a shrew actually thinking about it. Had a bit of a shrew type nose.

I suppose its possible but I usually get some advanced notification. Mind you to be fair I did fall in the River on that heatwave day while showing off to my daughters so my normal phone is now dead. Maybe I need to install the SIS app on this pile of shite phone. Thanks for the reminder
