And as my mother used to say "two blacks don't make a white". There wasn't an ounce of racism in her but I bet that would be viewed as a racist comment these days. Back then that was possibly ok, but now it is a racist comment. If she were not a racist then she would not say it today. I very much doubt that the phrase "two blacks don't make a white" has anything whatsoever to do with race, just as "black and white television" doesn't.

a very good first posting to me - someone not afraid to take the goat by the horns and kick it in the nuts. How do you do that then considering the fact the testicles are between the hind legs and the horns are on the head ?

This is thunderboat, unmoderated and with no new ethos ... it is what it always has been ... welcome to the forum. Knock yourself out ... be as unpleasant as you like ... use rude words to show how grown up and mature you are. Alternatively try to get along and enjoy the 'virtual' company ... there are some terrific folks here. Your choice. Rog No thanks, Ive no desire to hold hands and chat inanities or to be loudly arrogant and overbearing, and certainly no wish to listen to the same cross forum posters incessantly cry “bully and abuse” So thank you for the “unwelcome” and the rather threat laden “welcome to the forum” but I don’t believe TB “is what it always has been” It has become a group of ‘nice terrific’ people who would rather declare somebody a cretin or a mong and gang to rip apart fellow members who dare to upset the ‘nice terrific’ people for posting garbage. Hypocrisy? You are welcome to it. So why join then? Oh yes to cause trouble.

Unwelcome to Romans sock puppet. Unwelcome? Because my first post doesn’t fit the new, rather sickly, ethos of TB, or because you think I might be a bully? Because you chose to make your first post an insult with no other content. That is not the action of a new member, it is the action of an old member with a new face.

Black and white is a kind of binary thing. Nothing to do with skin colour. Two blacks don’t make a white is exactly the same as two wrongs don’t make a right. The only racist one is the Chinese’s version, two Wongs don’t make a white. .

This is shocking now(sorry) but I can remember the quote,"He/she worked like a black".The strange thing is, when I heard it back in the day,I never equated it to a black person.I really don't know what I thought.Sometimes, racist quotes only become clear years later.

I used to know a black fella who used to say "Knackered, I've been working like a nigger" when you asked him how he was.

I think racism together with all those other 'ISMS' is something thats snowballed into an avalanche over the years.. Nowadays so many folks get caught out with unexpected meaning read into seemingly innocent statements. I guess the old adage think before u speak is more relevant today than its ever been.
