I'd guess any rules or laws regarding reversing hark back to the days when people got on and off buses at the back.

I'd guess any rules or laws regarding reversing hark back to the days when people got on and off buses at the back. You maybe onto something but I have trawled the Road traffic act 1930 and the Conduct of Drivers Passengers and Conductors Act 1936 & 1990 and not seen any reference to reversing. To be fair about an earlier point, wouldn't bus stations of been private property and excenpt from the RTA thus allowing reversing to be ok. I know, I live a sad life but I do like a challenge and I am good at researching.

You want to find the old London Country Bus Services Ltd driving school instructors, then. Perhaps only they have the answer? Or try London Transport, as LCBS used to be LT before they separated and the red buses stayed within the centre of London and the outside ring was green buses (garages at Hertford, Harlow, St Albans, Hatfield, Watford, Garston, Stevenage, Reigate, etc.).
Or any of the drivers I used to work with. Or the bosses of the garages. Or the inspectors. The new Hertford bus station (1987?) was designed for drive forward from the bay.

The one and only time I went on a bus when I lived in Thanet, it trundled through a council estate picking up and dropping off passengers, then at the end of the estate reversed into a cul-de-sac and went back the way it had come. There were passengers on board when it did this and it didn't have a banksman.

When I first lived in London, I didn't know my way around too well. There was an occasion when I wanted to be at Victoria Coach station for the first service going up north - this was about 5am. The only way to get there was the dreaded night bus to Westminster, followed by a short tube ride. So, because it was dark, and because I was un-familiar with the route, I asked the driver to give me a shout when we got there - something I had often done in other parts of the country with no problem. He replied, 'Who do think I am? Fucking tourist information'?
I could write for hours with many stories of the attitude of London bus drivers, and their homicidal driving habits. But my blood pressure would start to rise, so I won't. However I suspect that the application form has the question 'Are you a miserable arrogant fat wanker with diagnosable personality disorders of any kind?' and if you tick 'no' its an automatic rejection.
I hate them all. Shoot them in the face in front of their families. Still, maybe its just London. After all, if you put enough monkeys in a cage, they will fight.

We caught a bus near Soulbury three locks, to go into Leighton Buzzard as I needed a cash machine.
Only the one bus per day in and out, so as we alighted in Leighton Buzzard I asked the driver where we caught it to go back.
He pointed out the spot and said "Don't worry, I'm the driver, I'll not leave without you."
He also dropped us off at the canal rather than the village.
Some of the rural bus drivers are terrific.

Rog I walked to pewsey last year, a good couple of miles, with my shopping bags i couldn't be bothered to walk. Jumped on the bus and asked for the closest to the wharf. He said he dident go that way but to jump on. He took me back and did not charge me either. Wouldn't get that service at home.
