That lifestyle only works if nobody else does it. Pipe dream. I'm not a hater but this kind of "look at us living a simple, real life" one upmanship is pretty pukeworthy. Soz.

Thats okay don't worry about it, so being less materialistic in your opinion is "one upmanship?" That footage is really old now probably 25years or so, it was interesting for me to see so many old friends looking young and happy. I'd never seen the film before so it entertained me for a while. I also enjoyed one of their other movies "where time standstill."

Not at all, I'm exceedingly unmaterialistic, two of us live on sub Β£10k, I drive about 2,000 miles per year max, never fly etc. One greedy twat in a big house with a big car and foreign holidays is worth about 100 of me in terms of using up the worlds resources.

That's all good then, I think the voice over and the music on the film where definately saccharin and twee.

Are you still in touch with them? Most people I knew doing similar 35 years ago are now well entrenched in the rat race, the others are dead. A few winters living the simple life, or a baby or two seems to radically alter their views! I do know one lady who went on to marry a shepherd in the middle of nowhere and still lives a very simple live but funnily she didn't head that way on purpose, it's just how the cookie crumbled. Her father had a barge 40 years ago on the Witham in Lincoln to convert. I remember us all slapping tar or something on the bare interior one summer just for the fun of it and a few beers. Happy days.

Happy days. I don't know what most of them are doing. The ones I do know of, got their shit together earnt some money and bought small holdings. I suppose you get so bored of being moved on all the time in the end. One of them became a farrier and most have got kids yes.
