I agree with a lot of this but let’s not forget that proper democracy means ‘the people’ have the power. I totally agree that we have been living in a fake democracy for a long time. However the next step is to remove the last remaining part of democracy, which is to remove the peoples vote. Once this happens we are one step towards a dictatorship. Once you take away choice, you remove freedom. I’m not sure how far the pendulum will swing before we see action on the streets, but I doubt it would be long. After all the majority voted to leave the dictatorship called the EU state. These people choose our governments, not the people who have any understanding - it's the floating voters who clearly don't know what they're doing who choose and they must decide purely on the usual lies told during the campaign or they wouldn't keep changing their minds. As opposed to people who will always vote for a donkey wearing the correct colour rossette...

As opposed to people who will always vote for a donkey wearing the correct colour rossette... Exactly. But at least the Donkey's voters have some idea and can tell the difference between socialism and capitalism. It's a start. Or do you prefer the least savvy to decide? I was living in Sheffield in a really poor area when Mrs Thatch ran for her second go. All the old dears who had always voted Labour and who spent the days bemoaning social services cuts voted Tory "because she's a strong woman". Just the kind of people you'd want deciding the future direction of a nation?

I was idly looking at maps of the referendum result and came across this: For me, the shocking thing is how much the constituency boundaries have been manipulated since 1975. Democracy is over-rated.

Comparing two different things as well as not comparing constituencies - goes into fake news as far as I'm concerned.

After all the majority voted to leave the dictatorship called the EU state. The British way as to write a stern letter then fizzle out. There will be no riots, or maybe just a quick one or two. But back to our stupid democracy. In a general election, many constituencies are "safe" seats. These can be ignored because their populations always vote the same. The election is decided on the seats that swing. In these constituencies, a chunk of of voters will always vote the same - They at least understand whether they are naturally a Tory or ...not. That leaves the swinging voters - those are people who don't know much of anything about politics, believe what they hear and feel it their duty to vote. One year they're a Tory, next year they're a Socialist because they can't even tell the difference, that's how genned up they are. These people choose our governments, not the people who have any understanding - it's the floating voters who clearly don't know what they're doing who choose and they must decide purely on the usual lies told during the campaign or they wouldn't keep changing their minds. You make an interesting point about the swingers. I would like to put a different view. Some people will blindly vote for the same party time and time again, regardless of who is on charge or their policies. The swingers however, will vote for the person/party who they believe will implement the policies that they agree with, Regardless of who it is. The ones who will run the county the best at that moment in time. Serious question. Why do people vote for a particular party. Do we just vote for the same ones as our parents did?

I certainly didn’t vote the way of my parents. I clearly remember casting my first vote. Walked to the polling station with my mum, a lifetime Tory. Mum went pale when I shook hands and promised my vote to a labour man who was outside the station. Dave Nellist.. not a man that tories warmed to.

And has done for 15 years, the problem we had was that everytime labour got control of our city my missus was put at risk of redundancy at work, and it's not nice to keep having to go through the process. Luckily for her she is a key part of the team. Ironically it is now a labour controlled council and they are taking back services from capita.
