AFter cruising the River Vestula last year with my youngest twin daughter incorporating a stop off at Auschwitz & Birkenau (I know how to show a girl a good time!👍) we arranged for this years trip to be to the wonderful Ukraine. However, the ex, my daughters mum, persuded her its not safe, with all the tales of rape n murder going on throughout The Ukraine, after all, shes watched the film ‘Taken’ starring Liam Neeson! Despite me telling Emily shes more likely to be raped n murdered on a night out in Blackpool, she stayed at home...So bollox to it I‘ve come on my own! Booked onto an ex Communist cruise ship, moored at port entrance, Jetty 2 on the River Dnieper, just outside Kiev centre, for a bit of cruising n sightseeing. Set off, leaving port mid afternoon, heading out of Kiev🙂

I would guess engine could be identified from a search of the boats name but it appears to be rather furrin !

Mainly for thebfg and his interest in urban exploration... 1st stop.. Chernobyl village, inhabited by workers of the plant and Ukrainian bureaucrats. Symbol ‘Of Hope’ at entrance to town.. 92 villages in the exclusion zone struck from the records... no longer there, destroyed by the accident. Last remaining statue of Lenin in the Ukraine.. in Chernobyl town.

Wow Andy, that's a bit different than the more common cruise on the Thames, I like the photo's, don't think that I'll ever see those sights through my own eyes. I'm ever so happy that I'm not jealous . BTW about this boat's engine(s) it doesn't look like a V-10 or V-12, but more like 2 similar 5 or 6 cylinder inline engines next to each other. Have fun, Peter.

My daughter is doing both Russian and History at degree level which is why I try to take her places I think will be of interest to her, alas its not to be this year due to reasons above!🙄 Anyhow I dont know if you've ever tried to strike up conversation with a Ukrainian chief engineer about ships engines in pidgin english....Its pretty much a non starter involving plenty of pointing, armwaving and general angerness on his part having to waste time dealing with an English idiot😱😱😱, sure my daughter Emily could of got to the bottom of it! Its not the easiest trip Ive been on! 😉😂

Again mainly for thebfg interest... Russian anti ballistic missile warning system known as ‘Woodpecked’ built to sense the differing shockwaves caused by the USA launching a ballistic missile in Russia’s direction....about as much use as a copy of The Guardian on Foxy’s breakfast table! Listed on OS maps as childrens play area whist in service, now Abandoned after the nuclear accident 2 KM away! Propaganda roon in the radio station room...’USAis the enemy of our Party’ etc plus pics of missiles and wavelength levels etc. i.ibb.co/Ykrk768/65-DD888-D-2725-482-B-817-C-9919-D247-BC52.jpg"] src="https://i.ibb.co/sq5hPLs/C2352396-C48-B-46-E9-8155-9-BC0-C1-C26-EB8.jpg"]
