Amazing pics Andy, the Chernobyl ones are really spooky as they tell a story without using words. Itβs definitely a very eerie place and quite moving... No birds were flying about there! Officially βonlyβ 31 people died due the the accident. unofficially, according to our guide, itβs probably closer to 750000 people across Ukraine, Belarus etc. No cancer deaths have been attributed to the radiation, despite cancer rates being 80 times higher than elsewhere!!

Great pics Andy I had to do Chernobyl incident when I was a radiation officer in the Army interesting stuff to say the least, what amazes me is how fast nature takes it all back, rumour has it that very large catfish live in the river how true it is I have no idea

Than you for posting the pictures.... I have seen couple of programmes ref post Chernobyl and recognise some of your images...it something that makes me feel very uneasy esp as they will not acknowledge the cancer link.

Great pictures.
The playground has featured in many previous images of the site, it somehow sums up the whole balls up.

All very fascinating stuff, I've been to Ukraine around ten or twelve times and I think it's a beautiful country, especially the western half. The east is largely industrial whereas the west is the region which gave Ukraine the title of "Breadbasket of the Soviet Union". Everybody in Kiev hates the Motherland statue for reasons I never fully understood. Presumably they just saw it as a huge waste of money, although there always was a lot of anti-Russian feeling in Kiev. In eastern Ukraine most of the locals have never even accepted the concept of Ukraine and it was common to hear people saying "Zdyes Rossiya" (It's Russia here". Ukrainian flag. It supposedly represents the sky above wheatfields, at least in popular conception.
