The John William was a near neighbour of mine. It certainly has had an interesting life. It had a junk rig. When it was sold at Viking Marina in Goole it went straight down river to Hull for replating, at a cost of something like 15-17 grand which the old owners paid for as part of the deal. I would never have recognised it now, but the current owners have retained the "windows" around the stern of the hull.

That's interesting kris. I noticed the unusual stern cabin arrangement. I quite like it as it does not detract from the lines of the boat. Someone will get a bargain there if it has had 10k+ of hull work recently. Really nice boat that is.

Would be interesting to know if the adventures involved using the current engine which looks like an HRW3 Maybe that is the original unit from boat was first motorised. Could be. 1970s engine 1970s conversion?

Yes its definately had an eventful life. I wonder if the ten grand worth of work mentioned in the alan pease advert mentions. If t did it might be a good buy. Id think that was the original engine or at least the one when it was rigged as a junk.

Seems likely it is the original unit if it was converted from a dumb barge in the 70s.
It might even have been straight out of Dursley.

I'm intrigued by the idea that you could put conditions on the sale of a boat. A bit like covenants on houses. I'm sure with boats this must be a goodwill rather than legal thing. I guess NigelMoore might know if he can be disturbed from his pipe and whisky (and slippers?) routine.

My original impression was it is an air cooled unit and looking again I think it is so my HRW3 suggestion is wrong. I was disturbed by the lack of ducting which is why I put HRW3 as I usually associate air cooled units with ducted warm air outlets.
Alan.Pease says 33hp which makes it an HA3.
Good unit if a little noisy.

I feel discussion of this boat needs some comment from JohnV Obviously bargemast would be able to provide valuable input also.

That's why I think someone is going to get a bargain. Obviously a lot of work to do but for 15k or less its a seriously good base.
Of course fashions change. Maybe these aren't popular any more.
