I used to like getting an address of Narrowboat x at x address, allowed me an hour or so to search for it whilst walking along the towpath before recording that the address no longer existed...

Strangely enough the position on a boat is that you don't need a TV licence if you have one for a land-based address, although both televisions can not be switched on at the same time. I don't know how they could check this. Haven’t you heard of TV detector vans? Not sure if anyone saw one in real life come to think about it? No, we are still suckers and pay the BBC....sorry TV licence every year without fail even though we rarely go back to the cottage. TBH, I can manage fine without TV, but Chris struggles a bit (well she needs a break from me!) Interestingly there has been a massive scam recently where people have been receiving false unpaid licence demands. I’ve seen some in my icloud spam email account. The scammers seem to have been able to use random private email addresses to send them (that’s how you tell they aren’t genuine).

They go to your land address then use mobile phone location data to nip over to where you are moored and simultaneously keep an eye on it all. 4 staff a car and some diesel. Not exactly complicated. It is £1000 after all. Sorry, are you talking about CRT?

CRT have a considerably higher capability backed up by some incredibly advanced technology from India.

Obviously if it is abolished the BBC would have to source income from advertising or/and subscription. The BBC already do advertising on some of their other freeview channels so for me it time for them to go all commercial

Anyway, all I can say is thank fuck it isn’t up to anyone on here. Either get a licence or go to prison or don’t have means to receive broadcast Tv. It’s not that hard a concept. But don’t wish to fuck up one of Britain’s greatest assets. If you don’t like it move to a country where tv is funded by advertising, ie virtually any other country in the world.

It seems a bit extreme to me to imprison people for watching Eastenders when even muggers and burglars get off with a fine.

You can't be put in prison for not having a TV Licence.
Anyone can be put in prison for not paying a fine.

If enough people were happy to pay a subscription for the BBC (like people do with Sky) then why would the BBC be ‘fucked’up’? They would only have a problem if they failed to compete with the other TV providers. I’m not sure how much Sky charge now but I suspect it’s a lot more than the BBC/TV licence. Sky also subject their customers to an advertising onslaught despite this. Maybe the real problem is that the BBC haven’t got the resources to check whether people are watching their (non advertising supported) content or not. So they have relied on threatening tactics over the years I’d concede that when we watch BBC content that it’s nice not to have to watch adverts. Maybe that is a good reason for us to carry on paying for a licence. TBH, my main objection is their bias, particularly regarding Brexit. I’d prefer the BBC to stick to their own rules.

On many occasions, their jobsworths have denied people who are literally dying of terrible illnesses the benefits many have paid for over the years, because they ‘fail’ their tests – tests that they design to be failed. Last year, in yet another of their fuck-ups, they were fined which is, for them, a nominal sum of £10,000, but unable to cope with that loss they now have the fucking cheek to go to court to have the case reversed: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49208240Why don’t Capita employees do the decent thing and get themselves jobs as ponces in Parisian pissoirs?

I have sky package and yes its expensive. I'm not willing to shop around for new provider as its my understanding u then have to have another satellite dish and I don't want to continually get these things...we waste so much. When i signed up for sky they would not use the dish there despite fact that previous owners of property also with sky. Fortunately the guy who fitted the CCTV took the old dish away for me.

Because Sky actually makes decent programs, they broadcast shows from all over the world and cater for every interest. While it annoys me their sports coverage is second to none. In comparison what do you get from the BBC on it's two channels, 49 radio channels and online content? Even its kids tv is online now. Rubbish MOTD. Showing five minutes of each football game, cricket highlights in the middle of the night. I don't have up to date figures but will look in 2012 2793 shows were repeats, that's a third. If I want to watch repeats I will watch dave or the obscure sky channels. I understand they want to make the bbc repeat free by 2025 or some when. Anyways i waffle on, the BBC and sky are not comparable. SKY is so much bigger and better. If they dropped bbc from their package I am not sure I would even notice.

ItV, C4 and C5 are also public broadcasters but they have to self fund.
Is the fact that the BBC are funded by the tv licence an unfair advantage over the other 3
