I understand your concern over the closure of some of the other local facilities and I can assure you that any decision to close boater facilities is not taken lightly. There are usually a number of deciding factors at play, which can be anything from access difficulties because of land ownership, changes in building regulations for the type of waste system being used or in some instances the cost of upgrading the site may be prohibitive. Where any facilities are lost we consider the impact on boaters and will do our best to install new facilities to compensate for the loss wherever possible. Matthew Matthew Symonds National Boating Manager (Leisure) This guy is so full of shit, he needs his own elsan.

I'm surprised he didn't start the letter thus:
"Dear Liveaboard Git..."

I've just fizzed off another e mail requesting any update following the meeting as I do not want the issue forgotten under the weight of other business. You'll soon be on their blacklist and Section-8ed for your insolence.

Hello Rog
I understand that the meeting was positive. We are arranging the agreements and to undertake the repairs to the Elsan, our regional staff decided to fill the Elsan with concrete post mix instead of just fencing it off. I’m awaiting timescale for this work but will let you know when I have this.
Best wishes
Matthew
Reply received this morning.
Pleased with the prompt reply and the eventual return to operation ... however 'filled with concrete' is a rather strange response for a temporary closure.

Rog Maybe they should have used the concrete to fill the gaps in Whaley Bridge dam instead - hindsight is a wonderful thing - (said very sarcastically)!
Keep up the pressure Rog.

Rog I can only guess and hope that they did it because they really didn't want anyone to put more waste in as it can not be emptied overwise the concrete bit is quite worrying.

Fill the Elsan with concrete?!!? Temporary my arse. More power to you Rog, perhaps you (and other?) have made them think they won't get away with permanently closing it. Good work. A tactic when one wishes to close something is to spend silly unnecessary money maintaining it for a year or two, then claim it's too expensive to maintain or wreck to and claim it's too expensive to repair. I have first hand experience of the former and BW liked filling locks with rubble and concrete for the same reason.

I am claiming no credit ... my e mails were sent for entirely selfish reasons, but I didn't want the closure brushed aside and simply forgotten like so many others.
The landowner referred to has a mooring very nearby and uses the elsan himself, which is extremely fortunate.
Without his kind offer of access for the pump-out lorry, I'm fairly sure the concrete would have been permanent.

Well done Rog
- though I can't quite comprehend the filling of the Elsan with concrete post mix....?
Wonder how much longer the "temporary closure" at Rugby might be (02/08/19)? Perhaps someone local or who uses it regularly might like to enquire of Matthew?

Will there be a Public Inquiry?
1. Who filled the bog with concrete?
2. Under whose orders?

Nothing to date.
May pop to the boat tomorrow and ask from the land owners side what's happening.
