Fill the Elsan with concrete?!!? Temporary my arse. More power to you Rog, perhaps you (and other?) have made them think they won't get away with permanently closing it. Good work. A tactic when one wishes to close something is to spend silly unnecessary money maintaining it for a year or two, then claim it's too expensive to maintain or wreck to and claim it's too expensive to repair. I have first hand experience of the former and BW liked filling locks with rubble and concrete for the same reason.

Been down to Warwick today and asked around.
I understand (third hand news) that the landowner has agreed to operate the elsan 'under licence' and it will be back in operation in the near future, however I do not know if this means the landowner will be able to charge for use. Seems likely if he is responsible for emptying.
I was also told (again, third hand) that C&RT are looking to reduce costs by 'getting rid' of more elsans in this way ... don't suppose this is really news as it's something we've all seen happening.
I have no further update from C&RT but will certainly be 'chasing it up' before the end of the year.
The elsan being put back into service appeared to be good news ... qualified good news if we now have to pay directly for the service.

Elsan installations were originally put in when the vast majority of users would have been leisure boaters. Over the last couple of decades there has been a massive increase in people using boats without moorings for residential purposes, assuming that license fees will cover domestic waste disposal. This will obviously put a strain on things like elsan and bins neither of which were intended to perform a residential waste disposal function.
The changing face of the waterways.

If CRT are really interested in the waterways for boaters then serious investment into elision facilities etc needs structuring into their finances

Rog Unless boaters start kicking up a fuss, the gradual privatisation of the waterways will continue. How long before you have to pay for visitor moorings when out cruising? The contiued passing over of responsibility for public assets to private operators is disgusting and needs to be stoppped. Lets just think about it, maintanance given to private contractors, cutting the grass and cleaning services done by private contractors and the marinas sold. So whats next the online moorings?, already lined up for privatisation by callling it "waterside moorings" and giving a private contractor the enforcment contract (district enforcment.) So come on unless we alll start to kick up a fuss, the waterways will be gone before you know it.

The changing face of the waterways. There is nothing inevitable about it, unless we all have the same defeatist attitude as yourself.

My concern is that I would rather facilities remained available with an additional charge, rather than no services.
Of course, first choice is that C&RT maintain taps, elsans and rubbish points at existing levels, but is that an option ?

The CRT rubbish bins at Great Bedwyn are overflowing. Perhaps CRT are hoping Greta Bedwyn will be overrun by rats. I'm surprised the residents haven't complained, as they all look to be rather wealthy.

Bins fill up.
On another day one could visit to find them all empty ... just bad timing.
They can't be emptied every day ... and in fairness, it's not C&RT's rubbish it's ours.

Rog It's their rubbish collection frequency that is the cause of overflowing bins. Aren't you one of those moaning about the closing of Elsan disposal facilities? You may as well say it's not CRT's poo but yours. You only have yourself to blame for filling up your Thetford.

Try to focus.
My complaint was against C&RT removing the elsan service.
It is boaters ... us ... who fill elsans ... fill refuse bins.
There may always be occasions when both may be full, that's just the nature of the service.
It's the loss of the service which caused the complaint.
