She has one of those faces I want to slap... really hard !π‘ Personally,I think she is a 'puppet' with her parents operating the strings. She needs to get back to her education where she can learn to be a useful member of society, rather than telling others how to live. *In case you hadn't guessed,I'm not a fan.π I'm afraid if I was her mother I would be "suggesting firmly" that she needs to get an education under her belt in order to secure employment which will pay for her high ideals.. Principles, however laudable, need to be paid for. The only problem with that is that the vast majority of jobs facilitate damage to the environment, one way or another. That would go against her principles, it would seem.

Anyway my hope for the future is fusion power - ie what powers the sun. This seems to have gone pretty quiet recently but there is an ongoing international project called ITER in Southern France, which is building what should be a βnet gainβ (ie puts out more energy than is needed to run it) Tokamak reactor. Obviously this is a big budget project, but set against the money spent internationally on fossil fuel development and their usage, renewable energy and other βgreenβ stuff, it is a tiny drop in the ocean. Ultimately by E=MC^2 the universe is made of a massive amount energy and of course this is what currently fuels it (fusion) so if we could get a tiny iota of that, all our energy and carbon worries would be a thing of the past. We could have fusion plants running carbon dioxide extraction systems to get the CO2 levels back to where we want them. But for whatever reason, this hasnβt captured the public interest at all. I suppose most people donβt understand the fundamental differences between fission and fusion and how the latter has virtually none of the down-sides of the former. Net-gain fusion power is very difficult. But not impossible. If as much effort went in to perfecting it as goes into lots of other rubbish such as putting a man on mars, tourists in space etc, I think it could come to fruition fairly quickly. But nobody seems that interested - not sexy enough I guess. Its one of those technologies that has always been just around the corner, a bt like cheap efficient battery technology. Yes very true. However the question is why and I suggest itβs because not much effort (in the great scheme of things) has been put into solving the issues.

What does a nuclear scientist have for lunch?

You might be right, but i think hanging out hopes of survival as a species on a technological fix is a little bit risky.

She will become a climate scientist i would imagine. Her employers wouldn't put up with her taking long boat trips during her research though, she'd have to fly. Doubtless she'd have air conditioning in her lab/ office, now that it's getting warmer, you know.

Actually no because I do not own any shares or property and gain no income from either. Not my cup of tea. If I did I would not be able to validly criticise those who live by these means And no pension. Sorry if this does not conform to your assumptions.

I live off profits from property. Zero positive impact on the economy, little or no travel required. Therefore, less damaging to the environment than just about any job anyone could mention.

I'm sure you're far to busy pissing the family fortune up the wall. No criticism there, I'd be doing the same if someone a few generations back hadn't beaten me to it.
