He wasn't nasty and didn't hurt me at all. Just rushed the job and failed to take proper account of the blood vessel which he punctured leading to me spitting mouthfuls of blood into the fire for 24hrs and making the bed look like a scene from a horror film. The appointment was at 2.25. Bugger. Just booked a checkup for 2.25pm Hah! not bad at all, another few minutes you'd be in real pain.

Going back to the original post, my anthracite experiment has yielded the following results.
Normally I would expect to get about three-and-a-half days out of a bag of Excel. By mixing it with anthracite I've managed to get a fortnight out of two bags of Excel and one bag of anthracite. So it makes financial sense to use it as a supplement to the Excel.
However, it needs a strong draft of air to stay alight, at least intermittently, so it won't slumber for 10-12 hours while I'm out at work, or even stay in overnight.
So while I will be buying some more when Callisto next passes, I'll still be using Excel as the primary fuel.

It all seems rather complicated - you'd think that strong draft of air would gobble the Excel mixed in up, like a blast of radiation sweeping the meat off someone and just leaving the skellington (the anthracite). I can't help feeling that the 'anthracite' sold by coal merchants isn't anthracite at all, which is supposed to be the purest form of coal, ie. real coal, hard and shiny. Anyway, I like talk of stoves and coal, I am looking forwards to starting our stove and seeing thick smoke pour out of our chimney, already on our way in 2 weeks' time.

It's definitely anthracite, irregularly shaped small shiny nuggets of obviously natural coal rather than manufactured shaped ovoids such as Excel. The trick I suppose is knowing how much of each to put on the stove at any given time, which primarily depends on whether I am going to be there to tend to the fire.

Keeping a fire in on a fuel which requires a lot of air must be a real let-down.

Small anthracite used to work really well in the Rayburn...son managed to keep it going for 36 hours without feeding it..however the multifuel in the lounge at Horror House just would not keep going on anthracite..in the end I just used the smokeless on that.

Keeping a fire in on a fuel which requires a lot of air must be a real let-down. Perhaps the ecofan's output could be directed towards the grille at the bottom of the stove door thus supplying extra air, a bit like a blast furnace or turbo.

They have a secret relay triggered by belief.

I don't have an ecofan because they don't work.

I don't have an ecofan because they don't work. Therein lies you problem, you aren't triggering the belief relay. Remember that thing on your skule reports, "andrew must try harder". Well it's happening again.

I don't have an ecofan because they don't work. That's a bit like saying your engine doesn't work, but what actually happens is that the water passing under your boat turns the propeller which in turn makes the driveshaft revolve which makes the valves and the piston in the engine move up and down.
