Given the response to my 'Funeral' post I thought it only natural to continue the theme so I've added another poll "Do you believe in life after death'?

I often think I'm reincarnated but I can never remember what I was before, which is frustrating.
Why only life after death, why not life before life?

Given the response to my 'Funeral' post I thought it only natural to continue the theme so I've added another poll "Do you believe in life after death'? You missed an option: Not really, but there is a possibility that events of the Universe are stored somehow, someway, and that 'souls' can continue to live on. Here's the bit from the movie A.I.: "So we began a project... ...that would make it possible to re-create a person, long dead... ...from the DNA in a fragment of bone or mummified skin. We also wondered, would it be possible... ...to retrieve a memory trace in resonance with a re-created body? And you know what we found? We found the very fabric of space-time itself... ...stored information about every event... ...which had ever occurred in the past."

Great film and I particularly like this bit where the aliens arrive. I have put a clip of my hair in my Teddy' pocket just in case!!!

to believe in that you have to believe that humans have a consciousness that separates us from all other members of the animal kingdom, and that can in some way outlive our mouldering or cremated carcass.
I would like to hear views from those who know better to explain at what stage of evolution this consciousness first appeared.

There is something that sets us apart from all other living things on the planet, what it is I am not sure. Other creatures feel or sense pain, fear, danger, affection even love etc. I cannot believe that, however little someone is deemed to achieved in life, we just disappear into the ether after death. Perhaps there are other dimensions where we exist simultaneously or before or after this life. I think, when you look at the beauty and diversity on the planet, which has really only changed so dramatically because of man, something with intelligence must have created us.
My personal belief is that there is something after death, maybe not this life as we know it,and that what people call our soul is an energy which is released back into the unknown when do die.
I had a 'near death experience' but I cannot honestly say whether it was due to my illness or coma or just a dream. Having said that, dreams fascinate me as I have always and continue to have vivid dreams which are always like films but I do not know where the images,or people, in them come from. My partner sighs whenever I say 'I had a dream last night' and then recount it in minute detail, like a film or a book....

sorry jub, it's called wishful thinking, but if it gives you comfort it does no harm, provided it is not associated with a religion that pretends to be tolerant but preaches hate and hellfire against infidels (and that is by no means limited to followers of Mohd.).
on a technical note, if you really believe that humans are different to other members of the animal kingdom, can you define the precise point when homo erectus became homo sapiens, and how this 'difference' that never existed before was suddenly gifted onto us? IMHO the only way that can be explained is if you subscribe to the Dubya school of creationism and evolution denial.

Well I very much appreciate your comments and view but really, with respect, it is not a wish more a considered belief and, until someone can confirm definitively what does happen after death, I believe all options remain on the table

A genuine enquiry ... do you believe all living beings enjoy life after death or just humans ? Rog I really don't know about that, maybe it is determined by the level of intelligence. For example dolphins and elephants are supposed to have extremely high intelligence whereas a gnat may not be considered to have any. If my two schnauzers are anything to go by then yes they qualify!!!

People only think they are alive because they are trapped in a human brain and can only frame external factors in relation to their own lives. The world never "started" it will never "end" and nothing ever "happens". It's just all a massive chaotic jumble which nobody can do anything about. The fact they think they can is what makes it so stressful !

I am open to any argument on most subjects but sometimes I think we just have to make our own mind up about something and respect others who may have a different view. I do not know the answer to my question but it is interesting to hear, or see, the opinions of others so thank you.

On this subject (along with many others) my mind is open ...... at least by as much, as complete and total ignorance can make it.

It's impossible to prove anything. The only provable things refer to already formed assumptions.
It's good to hear other opinions on this sort of thing I agree with that. Even if they are all wrong.
