What's the odds the reports get leaked. Based on past experience, I think it unlikely that unredacted inspection reports get leaked. I am considering making a complaint to the Information Commissioners Office who might decide that the public interest lies favours full disclosure. However, that would take many months by which time Defra's interim report into the failure will be published. The reports featured in the Manchester Evening News article can be found here - www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/594779/response/1437385/attach/4/2141%20001.pdf

I like the way are assuring us that the report did not show any problem with the dam. That's ok then, the dam must have been fine.
There is a big problem here that the inspection process is not fit for purpose. Could it be that the criteria for inspection is designed deliberately not to look to hard thus avoiding seeing the need for expensive (but now seemingly necessary repairs? It's one thing letting a lock fall to pieces before repair, but a dam above a town? These idiots need a reality check.

"Matthew Forrest, who has been among a group of residents to have called for a public inquiry and criminal investigation, told the BBC the redactions seemed 'ludicrously heavy-handed'.
He said: 'The population of Whaley Bridge had very little confidence in the Canal and River Trust as things stood after the near disaster in August that could have potentially killed thousands of people.
'This nonsensical black hole of a document does little to build upon any remaining confidence and faith in the Canal and River Trust to internally investigate the causes, let alone replace the neglected Toddbrook Dam.' "
Criminal investigation.... perhaps the advertising agencies should be also investigated for how much dosh they're getting?

Cart are actually insane as an organisation, thats the only conclusion to draw. They expect to shout " national sercurity" and it will all go away. Time for Tony Dunkley to come clean and say that he can't provide any interior photos of his boat as it's a matter of National Security.

Good Idea...If enough people complain it may highlight the inadequacies of whatever inspection they ordered... or may highlight CRT failures to act on recommendations or none of these without fact based information all we have is whatever our minds deduce from what we can read....

I know they've announced that the dam will be re built but it wouldn't surprise me if they closed it instead, relied on the 2 other reservoirs that serve the canal, and regularly close it due to lack of water.

but a dam above a town? These idiots need a reality check. Let's not forget the value of everyone's house in Whaley Bridge has gone down over this! And insurance premiums rocketed!

That's quite interesting using "national security".
I wouldn't have thought reservoir design was a state secret. Maybe it is.
Surely if someone wants to deliberately sabotage reservoirs it would be fairly easy, by doing the homework, to find out where the weak points are.

The silly thing is that it may not even have occurred to the baddy terrorists to mess with reservoirs.
Now it has come out that there is something you can do easily to damage a reservoir and flood places they'll all be rushing out and pulling the plugs out.
I think people should be put on alert around reservoirs and keep a sharp eye on any terrorists who seem to be lurking about.
