People either love or loath them! I love them as I know they give my grandchildren a chance of growing old

I like wind turbinee because they are such an efficient use of land. You can stick a load of turbines up in a big field and grow your food on the same land.
Just seems sensible.
Plus if something else better comes along for energy production they can be removed and the small amount of land they occupy can be returned to crop bearing land or whatever quite easily.

I like the look of them, wouldn't mind at all if one was put up near where I lived. I wish the public were better informed though, rather than being kept in the dark as to the overall picture. For example; how long will it take for the electricity generated from the turbine to replace the energy used in its design, manufacture and installation, including things such as the mining of ore, all related shipping etc. It would be useful for the public to know that wind turbines are fitted with diesel engines to keep the blades moving when there's no wind. That should be factored into the 'full picture' as well.

We've had 11 put up on the moors above us, they are taller than Blackpool Tower. We can see the blades of a couple of them. I think they are great, very little damage to the moors, just access roads and a bit of land round each one. Of course the local whingers whiners and moaners had a good grumble, "we'll hear them" "they'll frighten my horse as I ride by" "they'll spoil the view". None of which came to pass of course.

The problem with windmills is this: they provide resistance to the wind, and because they are attached to the Earth by stalks, this will cause the revolutional speed planet to slow down. Eventually when the planet has stopped turning, only one side of the planet will be exposed to the Sun, and the other will be in perpetual darkness or catch a bit of moonlight.

No that's wrong. They are positioned so as to directly counter the unbalancing effect of fossil fuel extraction.
It's all been thought through by really clever people.
