They are aesthetically more pleasing than some of these huge solar farms that seem to be appearing for sure.
Personally I find them quite hypnotic to watch.
They do generate some noise and ive read concerns about the impact (literally) on wild life but overall I have no problem with them.
Afterall if we are going to keep Princess Thunderpants happy we will have to find electrickery from some where, especially given the enforced move to EV's from 2040.

Fact Corner: At the speed of light it takes 1.2 seconds to get from the Earth's surface to the Moon's surface. Go on then... you'll find it will take you a lot longer if you want to survive. It's a bit like the well promoted fallacy that if we put a 200mph high speed train through the pennines, Manchester to Leeds, it will only take 8 minutes. It will hardly have reached top speed before it has to start slowing down. So it's not travelling at 200mph all the way, that's impossible. I have heard tory politicians claiming it though, but then they vote for brexit too. Light from your torch is different.

I didn't say we were going to the Moon at the speed of light. But if you were to point your torch up to the Moon and turn the torch on, those photons will be on the surface in 1.2 seconds like it or not.
Our speed today will be roughly 800 kilometres/hour at 13 kilometres above Denmark and Holland.

Pilots use the more sensible Imperial system of flying at X feet.

It would be useful for the public to know that wind turbines are fitted with diesel engines to keep the blades moving when there's no wind. That should be factored into the 'full picture' as well. are you sure about that? every wind turbine I've ever seen when there is no wind is not turning. Are you confusing this with the standby diesel generators that are being installed around the country that may be used if the turbines stop turning and a short term power supply is needed to fill in before the big power stations come on line? Just thinking about that - it's probably associated with the commercial aspects of power generation where a wind turbine generating company has predicted the wind and sold electricity in advance based on those predictions, if they they can't meet their obligation when the wind unexpectedly drops they replace it with diesel generated electricity to avoid huge financial penalties.

We've had 11 put up on the moors above us, they are taller than Blackpool Tower. We can see the blades of a couple of them. I think they are great, very little damage to the moors, just access roads and a bit of land round each one. Of course the local whingers whiners and moaners had a good grumble, "we'll hear them" "they'll frighten my horse as I ride by" "they'll spoil the view". None of which came to pass of course. They sound like remainers, and the end result is the same...... no change and the sky won't fall in Phil

We could never rely on renewable electric,
Like has been said. What would happen there was no wind anywhere in the UK. Or a massive spike such as world cup finals. Or even heat waves.
When corrie showed the episode with the team crash back in 2010. There was a power surge of over 800 megawatts.
We will have blackouts post 2040 anyway.
Imagine 20 million people get home from work in the winter at 6pm, 20 million lights, kettles, tvs, heaters and cookers go on.
And then 20 million cars get plugged in.
What about off shore tidal farms. That would constantly generate electricity?
We need to change something.

They make the blades on the iow, they then ship it to fawley near us and paint them. No idea what then happens.
Jezza went there today. Shame if he had gone last week they could have blown him up.
The blew up most the old power station where the blades are.

Pilots use the more sensible Imperial system of flying at X feet. Point of order - not all pilots! Chinese pilots use metres. When Hongkong was British they used feet. Imagine the confusion when flying from Hong Kong to Chinese mainland or vice versa! Also, for some inexplicable reason German (and some other European) glider pilots use metres. Their altimeters are in metres. Which is pretty daft considering the controlled airspace in their countries is defined in feet!

Anyway, wind turbines extract energy from the environment and that energy comes from a combination of the rotation of the earth, and the power of the sun. So some of the energy comes from slowing down the earth’s rotation. Same with tidal power. Give it a few hundred years and the Greta’s great great granddaughter will be campaigning to stop the wind turbines that are slowing the earth. Mind you, think how much extra you could get done in a 25 hour day!

While I find wind turbines aesthetically displeasing, and while I agree than energy can neither be created nor destroyed, I'd speculate that the effect you mention must be negligible compared to wind resistance caused by buildings, cliff faces etc.
