They tried an similar but subtly different technique with Hudson narrow boats at Tamworth.
Boat shells excluding windows were launched at 90 degrees sideways into a small canal basin which had been dredged to a depth of 275ft.
The idea was that they would be lost forever.
Sadly it didn't work.

Sadly it didn't work. Have it on good authority (MIsomething) that the man on the dredger misread it - - and only made 27.5ft - so those rivets still have a (little) while.........….
