We don't want a smart tv ... it's pointless without wifi which we don't have. Rog Just pretend it’s not smart. You(and it) won’t notice the difference. That's the nonsense they trotted out in the shop ... "doesn't matter if you don't use the facility". Apart from it's at least £150 extra for technology I can't use. Rog

On our Samsung at home you invoke the 'smart' features by firstly connecting to wi fi then pressing the smart hub button on the remote. If you do niether it would just function as an ordinary Freeview telly. I doubt the cost difference would that much of an issue but the scart thing will be. They tend to be hdmi now.

The tv is only smart when connected to wifi which we don't have ... what's the point of paying almost twice as much to have facilities I can't use.
Rog
ETA Smart 40" tv = £350 plus
None Smart 40 " tv = £200.
and I DON'T have wifi

You post on here, so I’m guessing you have internet access.

The prices I am quoting are as a result of a trip to Curry's today. I have 20gb of data a month on a mobile wifi ... not good enough or sufficient data for tv viewing. I'm sure we can shop around and sort something ... it was just the general point of modern life being based on disposable items. Rog

Rog Modern life does seem to be based around disposable items but it's not really a problem. There seems to be a general rule that you can not make or unmake constituents of the earth (other than burning stuff) so if you dig stuff out of the earth, use it then return it to the earth via landfill it is actually not a problem. Influential people who make a lot of money out of group behaviour would like you to think it's a problem but at end of the day it actually isn't. And all this nonsense about destroying the animal kingdom is just that. Nonsense. Animals are a threat to humans. From a survival point of view it is best to benefit from the useful ones and destroy the useless ones. It's not complicated.

Ali and I have 20Gb each and have never ran out. We use some data to catch up on the odd programme and to watch things like MotoGP. We find it handy. I’m far from tech mad, my cars and bikes are all from the 60s and 70s. I just think smart TV is one of the better ideas of late. Suspect I’m not going to convince you though 😀
