We've spent the last fourteen years living on the boat for nine months of each year. We live a very low tech, simple life on the boat, apart from using the tablet and coming here. Consequently our 'stuff' at home has become quite dated, although little used. The rate of development of modern technology, it is not surprising we've got left behind a little. We had the phone removed from home the first year, as the standing charges were quite expensive, we were rarely home, and we both had mobiles anyway, so we've never got into the whole 'broadband' and cable tv issues. I suppose deep down I'm more a candles, wireless and good book man ... oh and a glass of something jolly pleasant Rog Glass of something pleasant? Last couple of days it’s been ginger beer for me. Tried vimto, cola, fizzy water, tonic...only 20 days to go.

I suppose deep down I'm more a candles, wireless and good book man ... oh and a glass of something jolly pleasant So we have that in common. I like to listen to the wind, and the rain pattering on the cratch cover. If one wants a more complicated life aboard, how about unrolling a roll of toilet paper and counting how many sheets? Owls hooting, and putting another couple of logs on the fire... but it is nice to have a cellphone signal (rare in the third world UK) and have a browse...

Ali and me have been surprised at how easy it is to not drink alcohol. Would be good if I could resume drinking come November, but at a lower rate of intake. I’m only really missing a glass with certain meals.

Pleasing that it takes little effort to stop don't you think ... reassuring that I don't yet have to go to meetings But what's really surprising is how little money I'm spending. Rog

We have wine, gin, whisky etc in the house ... we just choose not to drink at present.
Day off tomorrow so we may well eat out somewhere.

Well ... appropriate to the thread title, the new tv (whilst the same size as the old) has 'feet' considerably wider apart than the old one, so we've had to replace the unit on which it stands for something wider Jane doesn't need much of an excuse to visit Ikea. Rog

Rog Yes we had that issue when we replaced our TV a couple of years ago. But being from Yorkshire I steadfastly refused to add to the expense by buying a new stand so I stuck out until I could find one with the same style of central large 'foot' rather than that type. Of course the manufacturers now expect many more people to wall mount them so I think they pay less attention to the stands. I don't like wall mounted TV's for some reason, unless space is at an absolute premium.

I won't have tVs on walls..the feet on my latest are different dimensions so I used table from summer house and disguised it with a patchwork bedspread..looks ok to me
