Some years ago there was a move from the road to the canal when the heat got too hot. I once had the unfortunate acquaintance of one chap who was a drug dealer, car thief, smack addict and generally unpleasant scrote who would steal anything from anyone. He owned his boat partly as a result of his drug-dealing activities and partly as a parental handout. The guy was a one-man crime wave. The canal scene was a perfect cover for him as he mingled with other nicer folk. It was obvious this guy was something other than the average when the police helicopter followed him home and hovered about for a while. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to find out that Jubjub inadvertently tied up next to the local tealeaf.

So sorry to read this,as MJG said-Alrewas is somewhere I'd think of as being a safe place.

So sorry to read this,as MJG said-Alrewas is somewhere I'd think of as being a safe place. And also somewhere that is almost the dead-centre of one of the most deprived and crime-ridden areas of the country.

If you actually believe that program represents how the police can operate in the real world then you are a bigger nut than I thought. You are obviously not good at studying, watching and observing. There are many good tips in detective series. Columbo is another good 'un - remember Dick van Dyke's fingerprints on the INSIDE of his rubber gloves? No stone unturned. I remember an episode that used a finger print on the inside of a surgical glove. The actor playing the murderer was Robert Vaughn. Was there a similar story with Dick van Dyke?

But Dick van Dyke was Dr Mark Sloane, he could not have murdered anyone.

I'm very sorry for your trouble ... I know from personal experience how devastating it can be. I hope your insurance company now prove their worth. I know it's no consolation today, but at some point you'll have a tale to tell over a pint. No one was hurt ... it's only 'stuff'. But today I know the anger and frustration you feel. Good luck Rog Thanks. I agree just the hassle of sorting it out and, after my post about the Mikuni heater, they took the control unit!! They also took the radiator caps!!!

So sorry to read this,as MJG said-Alrewas is somewhere I'd think of as being a safe place. Thanks. I did speak to Streethay Wharf about replacing the batteries and they said they were called out to a permanent moored at Alrewas to fix more secure locks etc as someone had tried to break in. There were 2 lovely ladies enquiring as to my problem and one said her house was broken into a few weeks ago, the other said her purse had been taken from her bag in Church. She said there were 2 foreign looking men who said they were Italian and interested in Churches,a few days later the Church was robbed. I guess Alrewas is becomming a target area!!

That's very nasty. Unpleasant to think of other boaters doing this. You expect it from pikeys coming by vehicle but another boat is not good. I wonder if it was vandalism and the windlasses etc have been thrown in the canal. Thanks but no they knew what they wanted, all my mooring pins, windlasses, spare ropes, tools, tiller arm etc, even diesel bug treatment taken

Had to leave the boat moored at Alrewas due to lock closures. Despite being close to other boats and properties some pikey b******s broke in.Got a call from police saying mooring ropes had been cut but they managed to pull it to towpath. Forced entry to stern.Had to drive 3 hrs back to assess damage. It had to be boaters as they knew what they were after, batteries, invertor, mooring pins, windlasses, tiller arm, ropes etc B******s even took the dogs life jackets and the kettle.Fortunately didn't take starter battery so was able to take to mooring. Police absolutely useless, said impossible to find culprits so just contact insurance company. Absolutely gutted. That is just horrible I know how gutting it is when your stuff is stolen..thing is if they don't intend it for another boat it fetches way under its value.. I hope the insurance pays out and covers everything... Did any other boaters see anything? Thanks Another boater saw it drifting mid canal as 2 policemen were walking by so they helped to moor it They had taken the bow rope and mooring pins. The police rang to say there really wasn't anything they could do and weren't even going to record it.I am with GJW who said just get on with replacing things but it's going to be a hefty claim, they took all the electrical stuff, the hoover, even bedding and towels....

Very sorry to hear of this incident. It may just be "stuff" but it is also a violation of your personal space, which is nasty. I remember how I felt when my garage was broken into. Not much was taken but it was the whole idea of strangers being in my space. And that was just the garage, not my home! Thanks The pig of it is we had been out since Easter and were only half a mile from our mooring.

There are s,e scummy bastards around unfortunately. At least youve got your boat. Around here recently there has been a crew of bastards nicking boats plastic cruisers and narrowboats. The police where useless, even when an owner of one of the boats phoned them saying he knew where his boat was. They only became interested when he said he was going to physically remove the towrag from his boat. He got his boat back but with all the exspensive stuff gone and painted in emulsion. The towrag is still around on a stolen plastic cruiser. Crt are aware but they are doing very little as well. So. I know its no consolation now but at least youve still got your boat.

You should call them back and absolutely insist they record the thefts and obtain an incident number. You will need that at the very least for insurance purposes. It also helps them mask low level crime figures if it goes unrecorded. I had a very recent similar discussion with Cleveland police recently and insisted I was given an incident number following the theft of a mobile phone in transit.

Yes don’t be fobbed off. The crime must at the very least be recorded, even if it isn’t investigated. With all that you have mention, it is going to come to a few thousand surely - not a trivial theft. Perhaps it is because it was a boat. Maybe it would be different if a house was broken into - well that would be a good line to try on them, anyway.

It should be borne in mind that the primary purpose of the Police is to protect the ruling classes from a home-grown re-run of the French revolution, not to protect the meagre property of the peasants.
